Content Editor Associate - Remote

The Content Editor Associate performs editorial, project management and production roles under the guidance of Content Editor Senior Associates. As an editor, they review content prepared by developers and evaluate whether it aligns with RSM’s brand and professional standards, as well as the AP Stylebook. The Content Editor Associate prepares documents for updating, imports and transfers redline updates between various digital publishing platforms with growing utilization of the technical skills and considerations needed to execute complex single-source publishing projects. As a project manager, the Content Editor Associate “owns” the editorial processes for US industry manuals by creating timelines, workflows and serving as a developmental conduit to all stakeholders involved in a content update. The Content Editor Associate possesses a developed knowledge and understanding of RSM’s digital production platforms and is able to troubleshoot technical and process obstacles to find new efficiencies and solutions.
Uses project management skills to adhere to quality standards and project deliverables as agreed to by leadership and sponsors by:
  • Assessing stakeholder needs
  • Monitoring and communicating status updates between various stakeholders to keep projects on track and meet deadlines
  • Working collaboratively with the various project team members and stakeholders to manage project risks and documents and coordinates timely follow up on project issues; escalates issues and risks as appropriate
  • “Owning” the editorial processes for US industry manuals

Evaluates and proofreads content developed in various sources (manual sections, RSM Orb forms and other formats as needed):
  • Carefully reviews and annotates any ambiguities or errors in spelling, sentence construction, punctuation and other rules of writing
  • Verifies the content follows the brand standards, AP Stylebook and professional standards
  • Checks for format and design inconsistencies
  • Uses contextual experience to develop a growing comprehension of RSM and auditing subjects and terms to occasionally recommend improvements to the content developer where needed

Prepares content for publishing and publishes content:
  • Applies style sheet formatting to manual sections and formats tables and flowcharts in accordance with style sheets
  • Maintains tables of contents and other menu pages
  • Maintains meta-data tags and glossary terms associated with documents
  • Transfers sections to/from a SharePoint development site
  • Maintains manual trackers, feedback requests documentation, and archived manual versions
  • Checks the work of other content editors
  • Publishes content to multiple platforms and verifies that the publication process was successful
  • Troubleshoots technical and process obstacles to find new efficiencies and solutions
  • Uses intermediate knowledge of publishing platform to create and design written topics featuring conditional expressions for various web-based outputs serving the unique needs of domestic and international stakeholders

Supports multiple content developers during a periodic manual update process:
  • Builds functional expertise of the authoring tool and proactively shares applicable information with others
  • Maintains “How to” guides related to authoring tool
  • Provides orientation to new content developers to the authoring tool and related workflows
  • Responds to questions or troubleshoots for simple technical matters

Other duties as assigned
  • Bachelor’s degree in related area of specialization or a combination of relevant education and experience (required)
  • Bachelor’s degree with English or technical writing major or minor (preferred)

  • Intermediate Microsoft Office experience (required)
  • SharePoint experience (preferred)
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and written with diverse audiences (required)
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of the technology tools required with assigned job responsibilities (required)
  • Strong attention to detail (required)
  • Project management skills (required)

  • Two to 5 years’ experience (preferred)
  • Prior experience with proofreading and editing (required)
