Indirect Tax Manager 🔥

Summary of the role:

The Indirect Tax Manager is responsible for managing the company’s US and Canadian indirect tax function, including managing all matters of sales and use tax, VAT, and property taxes; supporting sales and use tax and property tax audit defense; and acting as a primary contact to address tax issues on customer and vendor invoices. Additionally, the Indirect Tax Manager will work collaboratively on different projects and implementations that impact the business. This position will be part of the Tax Team and will support all transaction taxes compliance, reporting, and audit activities.

In this role you’ll:

  • Manage outsourced U.S. and Canadian sales and use/VAT/GST/HST tax compliance. Manage property tax and other indirect tax compliance to ensure timely accurate reporting and remittance. Work with our Finance Teams to ensure all tax liabilities and payments are recorded accurately during month and quarter end close. Manage business and tax registrations.
  • Maintain sales tax matrixes and review current product taxability configurations based on product descriptions for the purpose of product mappings into Vertex tax codes. Perform tax related configurations in tax engines, including troubleshooting and resolving issues.
  • Provide indirect tax support including customer invoice inquiries, contract inquiries, review of valid exemption certificates and tax determination based on state regulations.
  • Collaborate with internal teams with indirect tax analysis and decision making as it pertains to billing engine implementation and other internal projects.
  • Research and communicate analysis of risks and opportunities in existing and prospective markets as well as handling related voluntary disclosures (VDA). Lead sales and use tax research and work on special assignments as directed including data collection. Research and provide recommendations on various indirect tax matters including working with Legal and Sales Team on contractual language and tax implications.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in accounting/taxation preferred or comparable experience.
  • Relevant Work Experience: Minimum of 7+ years of corporate in-house tax and/or public accounting experience.
    • Work experience in software industry a plus
    • A strategic mindset and strong analytical and problem resolution skills to manage and reconcile large volume of transactional data to report internally and externally
    • Thrives in a high paced environment, self-starter with “roll up your sleeve” attitude.
    • Must have strong research skills.
    • Ability to communicate issues in a clear and effective manner.
    • Well-developed organizational, time management, planning, and prioritization skills.
    • Team player that cultivates collaboration and leadership throughout the global organization.
    • Business Understanding: Software industry a plus
    • Skills:
      • Computing: Oracle, SAP S4Hana, Vertex O series, Avalara, Excel
      • Languages: Fluency in spoken and written business English is required, additional languages are a bonus.
      • Specific Knowledge: US sales and use tax, Canadian GST/HST, general VAT tax knowledge
