About the Role

The Athletic is seeking a Senior Editor to lead its Culture vertical, which will directly focus on sports and their adjacent topics.

Responsibilities

  • Big-picture, conceptual vision for the vertical, including long-term direction and expansion opportunities; generating and planning story ideas at the intersection of sports and culture.
  • Day-to-day management of our full-time Culture writers.
  • Collaborative approach to working within our vast network of writers and editors in sport verticals.
  • Keep up with short-, mid-, and long-term edit calendar and assignments.
  • Editing, producing and publishing stories via WordPress.
  • Develop writers and provide feedback to improve their work.
  • Use real-time metrics to assess performance and adjust accordingly.
  • Collaborate with HQ on business/marketing initiatives.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in digital sports journalism, including at least 3 years of direct editorial management.
  • Thorough knowledge of men’s and women’s sports.
  • Thorough knowledge of American history.
  • Thorough knowledge of Cultural events and celebrations.
  • Thorough knowledge of the journalistic process.
  • This is a remote position based in the US or Canada.
