Job Summary

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer or Executive Director and in partnership with the board of directors, the Director of Development will spearhead development efforts as The Firehouse Community Art Center (FCAC) initiates growth in its outreach and sustainability efforts. A new position in the organization, the Director of Development will have the opportunity to build the development function with the CEO/ED.

Responsibilities

● In collaboration with the CEO and board, will create and execute a strategy for a sustained base of annual partner giving, working towards FCAC’s first endowment campaign.

● Will create an aggressive plan toward building corporate relationships to establish corporate giving partners.

● Establishing several annual gathering events with partners throughout the year who will host in order to raise support and one or two major annual fundraising events throughout the year.

● Aggressively pursuing grants that are in line with our mission and vision, grant reporting and follow up.

● Develop annual fundraising plan and prepare monthly status reports on progress against plan for CEO/ED and Board.

● Manage the implementation of new donor database and oversee staff responsible for data entry and gift processing

● Secure financial support from individuals, foundations and corporations

● Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with major donors

● Oversee organization of special events and other volunteer fundraising efforts

● Develop and track proposals and reports for all foundation and corporate fundraising

● Develop and distribute fundraising materials in support of annual fundraising plan, e.g. Annual Report, Spring Newsletter, etc.

Qualifications

● Bachelor’s degree (required), Master’s (a plus)

● Understanding or working knowledge of the Non-violence and trauma informed funding community in Chicago and around the country.

● Insights on the way funding around the arts and its development among youth and young adults.

● Three-plus years’ experience in a lead fundraising role.

● Demonstrated excellence in organizational, managerial, and communication skills

● Working knowledge of donor databases (e.g., Basic spreadsheet, Raisers Edge, DonorPerfect, etc.)

● Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to establish priorities, demonstrate initiative, and achieve stated goals

● Excellent organizational skills, with an attention to detail

● Ability to manage multiple projects and work comfortably in a collaborative environment with a diverse constituent, including teachers, volunteers, parents, board members, alumni and community partners

● Must work well in multi-cultural staff

History

The Firehouse Community Art Center of Chicago was founded by Pastor Phil Jackson in 2006, in which an 100 year old 10,00 square foot Chicago Firehouse was converted into a community art center. Located in North Lawndale on the Westside of Chicago in the historic North Lawndale Community. Our mission is to interrupt the cycle of violence in the lives of youth and young adults in North Lawndale through the power of the arts. We are seeking to reach youth and young adults ages 13-25 through committing to a long journey of mentoring, education, social and emotional curriculum training and workforce development.
