Senior Philanthropy Associate

Job Description

Updated: Date , 2021

Job Title: Senior Philanthropy Associate

Department: Development

Reports to: Director of Individual Giving | Chief Development Officer

Position Status: Full-time, Exempt

Position Location: Cambridge-based or remote

About Root Capital:

Root Capital invests in the growth of agricultural enterprises so they can transform rural communities. These businesses purchase crops such as coffee, cocoa, or grains from smallholder farmers. With growth, they become engines of impact that can raise incomes, create jobs, empower women and young people, sustain peace and preserve vulnerable ecosystems.

We supply these businesses with vital resources: access to capital, trade and technical partners, financial training and conservation practices. We work in hard-to-serve geographies where others don’t. To date, we’ve distributed $1.5 billion to improve the lives of over 10 million people in farming communities.

Headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Root Capital currently has associated offices in Costa Rica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Peru, Senegal, and Kenya.

Position Overview:

The Senior Philanthropy Associate is a motivated individual who is focused on building strong, lasting relationships with individual donors and family foundations to support Root Capital’s mission and long-term sustainability. The heart of this position is to engage current and prospective members of our donor community, with a focus on those donors with the capacity to give significant contributions. The Senior Philanthropy Associate will work closely with members of the Development and Communications team to create materials, communications, and opportunities to better engage donors and prospects. The ideal candidate will be able to thrive in developing and advancing our overall communications, events, and systems. And, love building personal relationships and customized solicitation plans for a select number of their overall portfolio.

·       Create additional programs to increase giving from individual donor prospects.

2.     Donor Communications (30%)

·       Collaborate with the Communications team and lead on decision-making on digital and mail (Holiday Cards) campaigns, supporting and advising on collateral development, building lists, providing feedback, and leading execution.
