Summary of Position

The Grants and Equity Manager will be an integral part of the Social Responsibility and Inclusion (SRI) team, which develops, manages, and implements equity-centered grants, programs, and activities that connect and inspire leaders and communities to build a more inclusive arts and culture sector, strengthen the arts field, and catalyze change. This critical role will aid in the advancement of WESTAF’s internal and external equity objectives as described in its 10-year vision and strategic plan [1] by providing logistical support and administrative input. This position will have a growing and active commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, access, and anti-racism. They will see this role as an opportunity to drive systems change in the field of arts and culture.

The Grants and Equity Manager will support WESTAF programs in the areas of leadership development, grantmaking, thought leadership and activation of WESTAF’s diverse and expansive network of allies and partners. They will also work with staff across the organization to shape and execute policies and procedures that communicate WESTAF’s values of diversity, equity and inclusion.

The Grants and Equity Manager will support WESTAF’s leaders of color programming, grantmaking, and professional development activities.

Essential Functions

Grants and Program Management

  • Participate in the management of at least four full award lifecycle grants from the federal government, foundations, and other grantmakers.
  • Assist with guiding the development of eligibility criteria and adjudication processes for grant and re-granting programs.
  • Manage application cycles, grant panels, and final reporting.
  • Develop communication strategies with the Marketing and Communications team.
  • Oversee selection of grant panels and associated application materials and processes.
  • Provide applicant/grantee support via phone and/or email.
  • Review applications and participate infacilitate final award recommendation meetings.
  • Liaise with grantees to ensure completion of agreements and related documentation. 
  • Work closely with the SRI Team and Finance Team to process awards.
  • Build continued understanding of best practices in grantmaking with an eye towards equity.

Leadership:Emerging Leaders of Color (ELC), Alumni Network 

  • Execute meeting arrangements (virtual and/or in-person) for annual Emerging Leaders of Color (ELC) convening.
  • Schedule and participate in the selection process and communicate decisions to applicants.
  • Create and distribute meeting materials and updates to applicants.
  • Field and respond to program inquiries and assist with the program recruitment process.
  • Attend faculty meetings and follow up on action items.
  • Facilitate regular meetings (virtual and/or in-person) of the Leaders of Color network.
  • Provide administrative support for ELC-related initiatives occurring in other regions or states.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing and Communications team on the development of a website and newsletter for WESTAF’s Leaders of Color network.
  • Provide input on Equity and Inclusion Committee meeting agendas.
  • Stay abreast of developments in the field around professional development opportunities with a special focus on leaders of color.

Inclusion & Equity Advancement

  • Provide administrative and programmatic support for public sector agencies’ and arts nonprofits’ inclusion and equity consultations.
  • Assist with periodic state arts agency professional development convenings.
  • Assist with fund development support, devising program evaluation metrics, and advise on the communication of findings to the field.
  • Consult with the SRI team on various grant-related issues or opportunities that advance equity.
  • Build and maintain reciprocal relationships and alliances with those representing Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC), LGBTQIA+, and intersectional communities to increase awareness of and sensitivity to their aspirations. 
  • Provide input on professional development for staff to strengthen competencies around inclusion and equity.
  • Work across teams and internal working groups to provide input on professional development for staff to strengthen competencies around inclusion and equity.
  • Advise and support the development of culturally responsive technology systems that benefit artists and creative industries.
  • Contribute to the strategic direction of programs to ensure equitable policies, procedures and outcomes.

Skills Required

  • Intermediate experience with grant administration. 
  • Intermediate to advanced skill level in data management and familiarity with tools including grants management systems, Excel, Google Sheets and MS Access.
  • A moderate degree of familiarity with online systems, general technology, and both PC and Mac hardware and software.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Strong project management skills including the ability to multitask and manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines. 
  • Must be able to investigate solutions and ask questions to clarify potential pitfalls in a project plan to assess gaps in the plan and make informed decisions on how best to address the gaps.
  • Strong ability to work independently on solo projects with little support and also collaboratively as a team member.

Skills Preferred

  • Experience working in the field of touring and presenting.
  • Experience working with the NEA’s online grant management platforms.
  • Experience in event planning (virtual and in-person).

Salary Range

The salary range for this management-level position is $45,000 to $70,000. Starting salary will be

established based on the skills the candidate will provide to achieve the essential and preferred

functions.
