Contract Editor & Researcher


ICG is seeking an experienced editor, researcher, and critical thinker to complement and enrich the organization’s inclusive environment. We are seeking someone who can provide comprehensive editing services for Federal, foundation, corporate, and international entity proposals, as well as be able to complete funder research panels and other substantive online and academic research to help support proposal development.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Comprehend and distill information from websites.
  • Provide in-depth, professional-level copy editing, proofreading, and substantive/developmental editing of concept notes, proposals, attachments, and reports that may range from 1-100 pages in length.
  • Complete accurate and quality prospect and funders research panels using both digital and direct contact research strategies.
  • Effectively utilize specialized search engines, general online resources, and academic informational resources to complete research.
  • Work with clients and other consultants to gather information.
  • Maintain records in ICG's database.
  • Track statistics relevant to your work.
  • Interact with clients and funders from a variety of cultural backgrounds over the phone/Zoom and by email.
  • Be a pleasant person to work with for both other consultants and clients.

  • Strong written communication skills.
  • Ability to write clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive arguments.
  • Strong editing skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Experience with proposal writing.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with online, database-driven, and phone research techniques.
  • Strong contributor in team environments

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in a field that required significant writing and analytical thinking skills.
  • Minimum of two years of experience with editing and research.
  • Experience working in deadline-driven environments.
  • Able to work well in a team environment, handle multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Excellent and proven writing and editing skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and resolve problems.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills.

Other Desired Qualifications. Individuals with any of the following qualifications are highly encouraged to apply:

  • Previous nonprofit/NGO/social enterprise experience.
  • Administrative education and/or experience.

Equipment & Software Requirements. You must be able to provide for yourself:

  • Safe, secure, high-speed internet.
  • Computer/laptop, either Mac or PC, with 8GB of RAM (preferably 16GB if an option), current antivirus, and modern operating system.
  • Webcam and mic for virtual meetings (can be built-in).
  • Phone (mobile, landline, or online phone options).
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Adobe Acrobat DC or Preview (MAC) to compile and edit PDFs.

Compensation. Hourly position with competitive pay.

Days & Hours. Monday through Friday with nights/weekends to meet deadlines required, at times. 10-30 hours per week, depending on client needs and funding due dates.

Reports to: Managing Partner, Managing Director or Managing Associate, depending on the project.
