Legal Program Coordinator 🔥


ATASK is seeking a highly organized, resourceful, and creative individual with a strong understanding of social justice to fill the position of Legal Program Coordinator. This position will strengthen ATASK’s capacity to increase family law and immigration legal services in marginalized Asian immigrant communities, with a specific focus on low-income and limited English proficient (LEP) survivors of domestic violence and intimate partner human trafficking. This position will be responsible for coordinating and disseminating legal services and ensuring all survivors assisted by ATASK have maximum access to linguistically and culturally competent legal services. This is a grant-funded position for which funding has been secured through April 2022, with potential for renewal, contingent upon the approval of continued funding.

ATASK’s mission is to prevent domestic violence in Asian families and communities and to provide hope to survivors. The ideal candidate will be a committed advocate for immigrant victims, survivors, and their children and will work as a team member of ATASK to support comprehensive legal and non-legal services to survivors.

Hours: Full-Time, 40 hours per week (non-exempt). 9am-5pm on weekdays, with flexibility for evening and weekend events or activities. This is an on-site position in Boston, but all staff are currently remote.

Reports To: Simone Bui, Managing Attorney, Legal Advocacy and Representation Program

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and facilitate effective and efficient multi-disciplinary collaboration between ATASK direct service providers: legal staff, community-based advocates, clinical staff, and shelter-based advocates
  • Conduct triage intakes and provide direct client legal advocacy
  • Identify, establish, and nurture relationships with community providers, mainstream legal services, law schools, and other external collaborative and referral sources
  • Maintain student internship program, recruit volunteer student interns, and pro bono attorneys
  • Provide supplemental and logistical support on grants management, reporting, and compliance
  • Identify, organize, and coordinate substantive legal trainings, workshops, and outreach events
  • Conduct new staff and volunteer hire orientation and onboarding
  • Provide interpreting or conduct meetings with legal program clients
  • Assist attorneys in implementing legal best practices and compliance with ethical and professional rules
  • Spearhead maintaining, developing, and coordinating essential data collection and database improvements
  • Provide substantive and administrative support on legal cases
  • Perform other responsibilities, as needed, including duties as part of ATASK’s overall staff

Qualifications:

  • Committed to fighting for equity for marginalized Asian communities and ending a culture of violence
  • Bachelor's degree, with 2-4 years of experience in a community-based administrative or operations position strongly preferred
  • Fluency in English required and conversational knowledge in another Asian language preferred
  • Bi-cultural with a deep cultural understanding of targeted LEP immigrant community strongly preferred
  • Excels at identifying systemic gaps, conducting independent triage, and innovative problem-solving
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills including the ability to clearly communicate with a diverse group of internal and external colleagues and partners
  • Outstanding administrative and organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • Ability to multi-task frequent deadlines and complete work on time and under deadline
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Enthusiasm to learn, be trained, and take the lead in maintaining and improving legal data collection
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a team and as a self-led individual
  • Experience working with survivors of domestic violence, human trafficking, or other trauma preferred
  • Basic knowledge of legal services, immigration, courts, education, workforce development, mental health, public benefits, and child systems preferred, but not required
  • Ability to collaborate under time-sensitive crisis situations
