We work through the modalities of organizing, training, policy advocacy, litigation, and support.

POSITION SUMMARY:

If/When/How (IWH) seeks an experienced and proven Senior Grants Manager who will advance the organization’s institutional fundraising efforts. If/When/How derives most of its revenue from private foundations. The Senior Grants Manager will play a key role in helping the organization grow its budget by renewing grants from existing funders and by prospecting and cultivating grants from additional foundations and private institutions. We seek a seasoned professional who has successfully written and managed grants for multi-million-dollar budgets. The Senior Grants Manager will oversee the grants calendar, be lead drafter of proposals and reports, and execute submissions. We seek candidates with exceptional writing skills and a proven track record of grant writing specific to social justice, intersectional feminist narrative, racial justice and/or reproductive justice topics.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manage all aspects of institutional fundraising including but not limited to the following:

●   Draft polished, compelling letters of inquiry, concept papers, grant proposals and other requests for institutional funding.

●   Draft accurate, detailed updates, alerts, and reports for institutional funders.

●   Work with program staff to synthesize achievements and capture the impact of IWH’s work for inclusion in reports to funders and in other communications.

●   Evaluate and summarize program data via CRM Systems such as Salesforce and Podio for reports and proposals.

●   Manage a comprehensive calendar of past, current, and upcoming proposals and reports, and ensure smooth workflow and timely submission of said items.

●   Manage grantee portals for grant and report submissions.

●   Perform research to identify grant opportunities and cultivation plans for prospective funders.

●   Organize all grant agreements/contracts, budgets, supporting documents in an online filing system and in a CRM system.

●   Identify and develop strategies to optimize the grants administration process and streamline cultivation and stewardship of institutional funders.

●   Working with the Development Director, coordinate with the finance team to prepare budgets, budget narratives, financial statements, and organization documents required by current and prospective funders.

●   Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for grant fundraising targets and current status for submissions to the Development Director.

OTHER DUTIES:

●   Participate in and support other fundraising activities within the development department.

●   Participate in staff meetings, department meetings, trainings, and retreats.

●   Willingness to participate in internal volunteer committees to help co-create a vibrant, equitable, and collegial work environment.

EXPERIENCE:

Required:

●   A minimum of 8 years of overall professional experience with a minimum of 5 years of direct experience in fundraising via grant writing/grants management.

●   Direct experience utilizing CRM platforms such as Salesforce for fundraising and grants management.

Strongly Preferred:

●   Experience writing about reproductive health, rights, and justice issues and prior experience working in the field.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

●   Exceptional writing and editing skills with meticulous attention to details and an exemplary command of language.

●   The ability to quickly understand the complex concepts pertaining to IWH’s work and to thoughtfully translate the work for non-legal and diverse audiences in accessible, persuasive, and inspiring ways.

●   Demonstrated success in nonprofit fundraising and proven track record of securing large grant awards for multi-million-dollar budgets.

●   Self-motivated with effective organization, time, and project management skills, and the ability to prioritize tasks and nimbly shift between projects as needs evolve.

●   Commitment to social justice and racial justice/anti-racist principles.

●   Eagerness to work with and learn from strong, intelligent, and passionate team members.

●   Collaborative team player with ability to give and receive constructive feedback.

●   Excellent verbal communication.

●   Flexibility and adaptability to change and growth.

●   Ability to thrive in a virtual workplace and willingness to build relationships remotely.

●   Facility with online CRM systems (Salesforce and Podio) and databases, project management, file sharing, and workplace communications platforms and apps such as Zoom and Slack.

●   Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and G Suite including Google Drive, Gmail, and calendar.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS: Reports to If/When/How’s Development Director. Works closely with If/When/How’s Executive Director and will work with program directors and program staff.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: If/When/How maintains a virtual office and supports remote working and flexible work days. Reimbursements for home office equipment and supplies are available. Occasionally, employees may be expected to be available during off-hours and/or to attend events (e.g., conferences, staff retreats) on nights or weekends.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Most work will be done at a computer. Requires typing and participating in meetings (live and virtual). Reasonable accommodations will be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these and other essential functions. 

TRAVEL: Travel is suspended until further notice due to COVID-19. Typically: willingness to travel approximately 2-3 times annually within the continental U.S. Travel will be required to support team work and attend staff retreats, conferences, and professional development opportunities.
