Analyst / Communications Specialist

Classification: Full Time, Exempt

Location: Remote, minimal travel

Work Environment:

  • This position is mostly remote with some travel for in-person meetings to various locations throughout California but not always. Must be able to perform multi-day travel with overnight stays when required.
  • Must have a separate/dedicated, private, and professionally furnished office space to work free of noise and distractions as off-site meetings with staff, clients, and the public will be on video via Microsoft Teams or Zoom.

Summary: The CivicMic Group within NBS currently has an opening for a Communications Specialist.

This position will play an important role in providing necessary and impactful Collaborative Governance services to Local Government Agencies. These services have become vital in effectively facilitating the governance objectives of public agencies.

This specialized area is a combination of the disciplines of public engagement, outreach, content creation, and website and social media management. The Communications Specialist will interact with clients, internal staff, and the public. Strong public speaking and writing skills a must. In-depth knowledge of Special Financing Districts (assessment districts, community facilities districts (Mello-Roos)), and other types of property taxation) is desired.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The Communications Specialist position is focused primarily on, but not limited to, the following duties:

  • Create content for outreach and public engagement projects - Content creation using various software platforms vital for the analysis and sharing of data and information.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Use of in-depth knowledge about Special Financing Districts in content creation, when applicable.
  • Strong data analytics and technical skills a must.
  • Resourcefulness and ablility to independently learn new tools on the go.
  • Content creation requires extensive use of Microsoft Word/Excel/PowerPoint, Canva, GIMP, WordPress, and basic HTML programming.
  • Integration of content with Zapier, SurveyMonkey, Google Sheets/Drive, ArcGIS, and other supporting platforms.
  • Sharing and managing of content in various social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube.
  • Sharing and managing of content shared through MailChimp campaigns.
  • Manage website, supporting plugins, and various social media outlets. Extensive use of the following:
  • WordPress.
  • Beaver Builder.
  • Basic HTML programming.
  • Basic SEO.
  • Mailchimp integration.
  • SurveyMonkey integration.
  • Manage network and data storage through Microsoft Teams and SharePoint integration. Manage workflow and projects through Asana. Extensive of the following:
  • Teams and channels for the organization of data stored in SharePoint.
  • Video meetings with staff, clients, and the public.
  • Use of Microsoft Teams channel tabs and app integrations for the presentation and sharing of data.
  • Asana for workflow and project management.
  • Data analytics and management on various software platforms including Microsoft Excel, basic ArcGIS, and the conversion and manipulation of a variety of file types. Technical skills along with data research and presentation skills a must.
  • Basic use of ArcGIS to create outreach and public engagement content.
  • Story Maps.
  • Community Analyst infographics.
  • Manage audio and video for online and in-person meetings. Extensive use of the following:
  • Zoom and Microsoft Teams.
  • Camtasia.
  • YouTube.
  • Video and audio equipment for in-person meetings.
  • Processing of video and audio from in-person meetings for posting to the CivicMic website and social media.
  • Host online and in-person meetings.
  • Strong public communication skills.
  • Create and manage PowerPoint presentations in meetings.
  • Host and manage Zoom meetings with clients and the public.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Knowledge of and experience working with Special Financing Districts desired.
  • Minimum of 3 years combined experience using the tools and performing the various duties and responsibilities described above.

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
