About the Texas Senior Organizer

The Working Families Party is looking for a dynamic person who shares our commitment to racial, economic, and social justice to join our team as a Senior Organizer [1] based in the Dallas or Austin metro area (with frequent travel around the state post-COVID). This person will help us build independent, progressive political power through developing, leading and executing organizing drives and campaigns that build our base of activists, members, and leaders throughout the state.

Expectations and Responsibilities

Organizing and Leadership Development

  • Write, develop, and execute organizing plans that build the WFP’s activist base, membership and leadership cadre
  • Identify, recruit, train, and manage a diverse group of volunteers from Working Families-aligned organizations and communities as well as the broader public
  • Organize and lead training workshops that develop the skills, knowledge, and other tactics that (a) gather supporters and members, (b) help elect WFP candidates, and (c) build the party
  • Serve as Texas WFP campaign lead and representative on campaign coalition tables
  • Supervise and mentor WFP Organizing Fellows through a 10-week campaign training program
  • Organize virtual house meetings and other local events to engage WFP members and activists (these meetings will be in person post-COVID)
  • Maintain a schedule of 12-24 relational meetings each week with current and potential members, allies, partners, constituency/community leaders, candidates, electeds and their staff, donors, foundations, and other stakeholders to expand the Working Families Party’s base of support, build teams of local leaders, and identify new opportunities to act.
  • Help lead the process of setting recruitment and development goals for supporters, members, and leaders in conjunction with local leaders 
  • Ensure tracking of supporters and members and their leadership development in a CRM/database and build a team of members who can support this work

Field Work

  • Work with WFP backed candidates and Texas WFP leadership to develop campaign plans that build our base and guide our candidates to victory
  • Manage and execute a volunteer voter outreach program, including door-to-door canvass, phone bank, and text operations
  • Produce regular and end-of-campaign reports to monitor progress toward goals and document outcomes for funders and campaigns

Media and Communications

  • Lead Texas WFPs digital presence including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and e-mail
  • Recruit volunteers and community leaders to write letters to the editor/op-eds, as needed

Fundraising

  • Work with directors to identify and apply for funding opportunities
  • Plan and work with other staff and volunteers to implement annual membership drive
  • Plan and work with other staff and volunteers to implement annual fundraising event

Other Duties as Assigned

Skills & Qualifications

  • Two years of experience recruiting and working with volunteers
  • Three years of experience in political campaigns and/or community or labor organizing
  • Knowledge of digital organizing tactics, including strategic use of social media platforms & mass email
  • Willingness to work long and irregular hours, including nights/ weekends, based on campaign needs
  • Deep and demonstrated commitment to racial and economic justice
  • Strong grasp of contemporary political issues and current events
  • Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds, one-on-one and in a group
  • Self-starter with the ability to thrive in a team environment
  • Capacity to multitask in a fast-paced setting
  • Basic computer skills, including Gmail, GoogleDoc, and GoogleSheets
  • Car and valid driver’s license (mileage reimbursed)
  • Experience working with VAN or other voter file platform preferred
  • Bilingual Spanish/ English strongly preferred

Compensation

The base salary range for this position is $48,000 to $58,000 and will be adjusted based on an internal equitable scale that takes into consideration years of experience, geographic location, and final job description. We also offer excellent benefits, paid holidays, vacation and sick time.
