Hours: 40 hours per week

Pay Rate: Starts at $19.50/hour DOE, premium pay for multi-lingual services

Overview of Services

LifeWire’s Survivor Advocacy Services provide advocacy and education to survivors of domestic violence, coordination with the criminal and civil legal systems and other services such as weekly support groups for adult survivors, children, and youth, housing advocacy, 24-Hour Helpline and referrals to other service agencies in our community.

LifeWire’s Survivor Advocacy Services provide advocacy and education to survivors of domestic violence, coordination with the criminal and civil legal systems and other services such as weekly support groups for adult survivors, children, and youth, housing advocacy, 24-Hour Helpline and referrals to other service agencies in our community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide survivor-driven and trauma-informed advocacy services to survivors of domestic and dating violence with a particular focus on youth aged 13 – 24.
  • Develop and nurture on-going relationships with partner and referral service providers, focusing on youth and young adult service partners on the Eastside with a focus on educational institutions (currently Bellevue School District and Bellevue College).
  • Develop a flexible curriculum, structure, and guidelines for youth and young adult classes, support groups and/or skill specific groups. May be called on to facilitate a weekly group.
  • Maintain strong, supportive relationships and open communication with parents in the program when identified as safe for the youth and in accordance with LifeWire confidentiality guidelines.
  • Develop parenting advocacy practices that support and strengthen the bond between the non-abusing parent and the youth, focusing on the adult survivor as the expert of her or his own family. Provide co-advocacy (work collaboratively with fellow advocates) with a family when appropriate.
  • Co-facilitate and assist in coordinating LifeWire’s Youth outreach presentations within high schools and colleges, focusing specifically on outreach in health classes.
  • Work with Social Change team to engage high school and college systems for progressive development through prevention education and social norms change.
  • Remain knowledgeable of service and agency guidelines and procedures to make informed and independent decisions in emergencies and daily activities.
  • Assist survivors in all LifeWire Services by contributing to supportive activities.
  • Work closely and cooperatively in a team setting with all staff, interns, donors and volunteers.
  • Maintain organized shared spaces and personal work environment.
  • Participate in system data collection in an accurate, complete, and timely manner.
  • Conduct outcome measurement and use applicable evaluation tools.
  • Complete necessary paperwork and statistical information.
  • Appropriately spend program funds and consistently track the expenditures as required.
  • May be required to provide transportation to participants in agency vehicles.
  • Participate in continuing education, community meetings and internal meetings.
  • Occasionally work irregular hours, including nights and weekends.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned in support of LifeWire’s mission.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to move from location to location throughout multiple office and housing facilities and throughout the community While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use a computer, which includes extensive keyboarding, and the telephone. The employee must be able to communicate with a wide-variety of individuals including through interpreter services. Specific vision abilities required of this job include close vision to read participant paperwork, data enter information, and work with government and community websites, forms, and email.

The employee must effectively split work time between LifeWire’s office and community locations. LifeWire advocate roles are mobile, which requires the employee to travel locally to meet participants, other agency representatives, and government employees in their offices. Employees must frequently carry up to 15 pounds and must occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 30 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is most often in varying sites with varying levels of noise, frequent interruptions and occasional intensive emotional encounters. Occasionally, the employee is in an office environment with moderate noise. The employee is required to participate in children’s activities – inside buildings and outdoors – that require a wide range of mobility. The employee is required to drive LifeWire vehicles, which includes exposure to the outdoors and daily encounters with traffic. Employees are often exposed to recitations of traumatic situations and must be prepared to handle secondary trauma.
