Community Engagement Manager 🔥


Diaspora Rising seeks a dynamic and creative community engagement manager to coordinate our online presence via social media and e-newsletter. This individual or team will be responsible for creating original content, including designed graphic and video posts, and managing a content calendar and overall flow of publication for all Diaspora Rising social media pages on platforms including but not limited to Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook, and for the Diaspora Rising newsletter. The Community Engagement Manager must be sharp and politically savvy, and conversant on prominent issues pertinent to Africa, and its diaspora. The ideal candidate for this role is nimble, executing thoughtful and articulate posts and newsletter content that is relevant to international conversations, and responsive to current events.

Diaspora Rising (DR) is a new media and advocacy hub dedicated to strengthening the bonds between members of the global Black family. DR aims to support 21st century Pan Africanist movements, utilizing modern technology to inspire and facilitate connectivity and exchange. Diaspora Rising is grounded in the belief that the African renaissance will be powered by an affirmed and informed diaspora, confident in its ability and preparedness to tackle the challenges of our time and build the future we seek: A strong Africa, at home and abroad!

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and manage Diaspora Rising social media and email strategy
  • Create and manage social media content for various platforms - including images, video, and other branded/designed posts.
  • Curate and publish content for the Diaspora Rising Newsletter
  • Establish a robust and consistent social media and email marketing content calendar & publishing flow
  • Execute social media campaigns with cohesive and creative storytelling.
  • Define, monitor, and report out social media and email marketing KPIs; Monitor SEO and engagement, produce monthly analytics reporting

Qualities & Attributes

  • Excellent writing & communication skills
  • Able to express Diaspora Rising’s views creatively, with messaging that is on-brand.
  • Quick, nimble content creator with the ability to turn around copy and visuals in a timely fashion
  • Design skills preferred (but not required), including experience with content creation/management platforms such as Canva, Adobe PhotoShop, Illustrator, and various design and editing apps.
  • Up-to-date with the latest digital technologies and social media trends

Education & Experience

  • Experience with email and social media platforms required.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred (but not required) in design, marketing, communications, or related fields.
  • 3+ years experience producing content for social media (portfolio or reference content required)
