About Abortion Access Front

Founded in 2015 by Lizz Winstead, [1]Abortion Access Front (AAF) uses humor and outrage to destigmatize abortion and expose extremist, anti-choice forces working to destroy access to reproductive rights across the country. AAF fosters a multicultural, multiethnic and gender-fluid team of comedians, writers, producers, activists and volunteers who create content, stage events and build grassroots support for abortion providers that comes from and speaks to a diversity of life experiences. AAF is a fiscally sponsored project of NEO Philanthropy, a 501(c)(3) public charity that incubates new and innovative public-interest projects and grant-making programs. Position Summary

The Social Media Manager will work with the Communications Director to create, manage and execute online strategies that grow followers and increase Abortion Access Front’s exposure as the go-to reproductive rights media hub. This person will use humor and outrage to educate and inform intersectional communities about issues. Crafting strategic and engaging calls to action across social media platforms are a key part of this role!

  • Responsible for managing and executing content posting across all Abortion Access Front online platforms including websites and social media programs
  • Responsible for aligning with and consistently deploying AAF brand of humor with an intersectional lens and reproductive justice framework that elevate the AAF  profile with the goal of driving consistent conversions on calls to action around abortion rights and reproductive rights issues

Essential Responsibilities and Tasks 

  • Work with writing team to create and adapt content for each specific online platforms including but not limited to: TikTok, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram
  • Work with graphic designer, writing team, and Communications Director to identify, plan, and implement social media strategies for daily posts and pivotal anniversaries, dates, and events
  • Update and maintain social media best practices guidebook and make sure AAF team is briefed on any changes made to our look, tone or communications practices on our online platforms
  • Ensure social content is in Compliance with our 501 c3 non profit status

Engagement Strategies 

  • Ensure that the content of all web properties is relevant, current, and engaging 
  • Work with engagement manager on a database of key influencers who interact with AAF or are involved in issues of Reproductive Rights, Reproductive Health, Reproductive Justice
  • Work with Communications Director and Marketing on engagement strategies and tactics
  • Manage direct messages and emails across Abortion Access Front website and social media platforms
  • Provide monthly analytic reporting on all AAF social media, website, and application platforms
  • In conjunction with staff, create targeted goals for measuring outcomes and benchmarking success
  • Post Covid: attend major AAF events to post in real time (required)
  • Post Covid: Some travel required

Required Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Ability 

  • 5 years experience in social media management and website management in progressive media  or activism spaces such as, TV, print, websites, or nonprofits. Reproductive rights background a plus 
  • Political Humor writing 
  • Understanding of Microsoft Office, WordPress, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, CMS, Google Apps
  • Experience in rapid response communications
  • Commitment to and alignment with Abortion Access Front’s mission and values
  • Knowledge about the political and nonpolitical aspects of reproductive justice, and willingness to research more about the issue area
  • The ability to work with cross-functional teams
  • Extensive research skills to be applied to acquire platforms and organizations who would be good partners for AAF
  • Knowledge of  WordPress a plus
  • Ability to create analytic reports for all social media, and website platforms
  • Exceptional time management skills
  • Knowledge about the political and nonpolitical aspects of reproductive justice, and willingness to research more about the issue area
  • Strong knowledge of the differences between 501(c)4 and 501(c)3 content  is a plus
