Mid-level Giving Manager


The National Audubon Society is seeking a highly motivated, environmental enthusiast to serve as Manager for our mid-level giving program, the Great Egret Society. The Great Egret Society was established in late 2017 and has grown to comprise around 6,500 members.

The successful candidate will oversee the planning and execution of the mid-level strategy, including donor cultivation and stewardship, in addition to identifying opportunities to grow the program and take it to the next level. The Manager will serve as the main point of contact for donors in the mid-level program and those interested in joining the program.

This position will report to the Senior Director, Direct Response and work in collaboration with other members of the direct response team.

Essential Functions

  • Serve as the organization's primary contact (“concierge”) for mid-level donors, providing high-quality and prompt donor care via multiple channels, helping to address questions or complaints, and communicating our gratitude of their support and the impact they are having on our mission.
  • Plan and execute direct marketing campaigns (including but not limited to mail, telemarketing and email) in line with the program's strategic and revenue goals.
  • Oversee day-to-day production of campaigns, with assistance from outside vendors and internal support, while ensuring schedules and budgets are met.
  • Develop and execute donor engagement and cultivation calendar including organizing tele-townhalls, events or invitations for mid-level audience.
  • Work closely with the Senior Manager, Digital on the strategy and execution of the digital component of the mid-level program.
  • Work with internal and external analytic and modeling resources to identify donors in the low dollar file to upgrade to mid-level, and execute a strategic upgrade plan.
  • Work with Development on moves management between mid-level and major gifts, and Gift Planning to identify opportunities for cultivating and engaging members of the Grinnell Legacy Society.
  • Ensure data processing and audience segmentation is correct and clean for all campaigns.
  • Track expenses against budget, work with VP and Senior Director to ensure revenue goals are met, input into budget process.
  • Monitor campaign results and prepare reports and financial analyses as requested.
  • Perform other duties as directed by line manager, including working with outside vendor on development and execution of low dollar direct mail appeals.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum five years' experience working in direct marketing, philanthropy, development or other applicable experience.
  • Strong project management skills and able to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills. Must be comfortable and confident speaking with donors and liaising with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Customer service or donor care experience is preferred.
  • Budget and reporting experience a plus.
  • Must have excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Must be a team player, but also be able to work independently and proactively.
  • Experience managing relationships with agencies and outside partners.
  • Salesforce and EveryAction experience a plus; CRM experience required (RaisersEdge, TA, Blackbaud, etc.).
  • Commitment to the mission and values of the National Audubon Society.
  • Commitment to further Audubon’s efforts to create a more equitable, diverse, and inclusive environment.
  • Previous non-profit experience preferred.
  • An interest in conservation, birds and/or birding not required but strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, or a closely related field preferred. Equivalent experience also considered.

The position is traditionally headquartered in NYC, however we will consider remote positions, with NYC and DC preferred.
