Director Of Congressional Affairs

About the Director of Congressional Affairs

For twenty years, the Working Families Party has built power at the state and local level in a growing number of geographies by electing progressive champions in order to deliver meaningful gains for working people, from raising the minimum wage to police reforms, taxing the rich to climate protection.

In 2020, crisis after crisis boiled over in America, from the pandemic to the economic collapse to violent policing and wildfires. Working families face challenges that can’t be solved at the state level alone. At the same time, new progressive WFP-endorsed candidates were elected to Congress. Together, this provides WFP with the imperative and the opportunity to engage much more deeply in federal policy fights.

The WFP Director of Congressional Affairs is a new, director-level position, responsible for designing and overseeing the WFP’s work with WFP champions in the US Congress, and ensuring coordination between our work in Congress and the rest of the political, advocacy, and organizing work the WFP does. The new Congressional Affairs team will provide capacity to WFP champions in Congress and support their strategic alignment and coordinated action, as well as strengthen connections between progressive champions in Congress and other organizations and coalitions, around both legislative and electoral work.

The overall mission of the Congressional Affairs team will be to support and strengthen the WFP champions in Congress, in order to build the WFP and progressive elected leaders’ collective power to advance a people’s agenda. The Director will lead this work, building and managing a team that will initially include two other staff members (and could grow beyond that depending on resources), as well as collaborating with other teams across the WFP.

The Director of Congressional Affairs will report to WFP’s National Campaigns Director.
