ABOUT THE POSITION

We are currently seeking a Program Manager, Curriculum to join the Pivot team. This position will be responsible for managing projects in Pivot’s Curriculum portfolio of work that supports school districts’ adoption and implementation of high-quality instructional materials in service of equitable student outcomes. Specifically, this Program Manager position will be responsible for the following projects:

·        CalCurriculum – In partnership with EdReports and the California Department of Education, manage a set of projects working with local education agencies to adopt high-quality instructional materials. This effort includes working in partnership with Pivot’s research/evaluation team to analyze key elements of these efforts as part of Pivot’s internal evaluation.

·        Curriculum Matters – In partnership with a handful of California policy and advocacy organizations, manage a shared learning experience for a cohort of equity-focused California nonprofits to inform advocacy efforts regarding improving the adoption of high-quality materials.

Successful candidates in this role will have a history of excelling at:

·        Centering work in the K-12 public education space on equitable outcomes for students most underserved by our educational system;

·        Working in and/or with K–12 public educational instructional systems that adopt and implement core English Language Arts (ELA) and Math curricula in service of equitable student outcomes;

·        Management of complex, multi-year, and multi-partner projects; and

·        Development and delivery of large and small group facilitation and presentation.

 

This is a full-time, Exempt position, reporting to a Vice President, Education Programs, with a “dotted line” reporting relationship to Pivot’s Chief Growth Officer for projects involving research and evaluation. Pivot is headquartered in Oakland, CA, however all staff are currently working remotely due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We anticipate returning to an in-office setting once it is safe to do so. California-based candidates are preferred due to the California-based focus of this role, however all geographies will be considered. Candidates based outside of California will be required to travel to the state regularly (once travel is considered safe), for client engagements and Pivot team meetings.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

●       Project Management. Serve as project manager for assigned projects, guiding them from launch through achievement of all deliverables. Using strong project management skills and a high level of organization, develop and manage a project plan for each project, plan and lead regular meetings of project teams, and supervise project staff and contractors.

●       Partnership Development. Develop and/or maintain partnerships with Local Education Agencies (LEA) partners (e.g., districts, charters, county offices) and other key partners, (e.g. education nonprofits, research/policy/advocacy organizations, technology companies, state entities).

●       Meeting Facilitation & Materials Development. Prepare for, facilitate, and manage follow-up from events, trainings, workshops, and 1:1 site meetings (virtual or in-person) with all partners. This includes preparing for and facilitating learning arcs or learning experiences for a cohort of participants over time, and co-developing materials/resources/tools for various audiences.

●       Data Collection, Analysis & Evaluation. With oversight from Pivot’s research/evaluation team, collect and analyze qualitative and quantitative data to assess project efficacy, inform future Pivot efforts and influence the curriculum implementation market. This includes designing data collection methods, report writing and facilitating internal discussions to leverage learnings.

●       Communications & Marketing. In partnership with our marketing and communications team and external partners, play a key role in developing and implementing a communications strategy for projects. This may include developing content and presenting our work through webinars or conferences; communicating about our work through social media and our website; or contributing to grant reports/applications and presentations to funders.

●       Other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS

·        A passion for Pivot’s vision, a commitment to public education as a key lever for opportunity, and a desire to deepen the organization’s impact. An understanding of institutional and structural racism and bias, and other inequities’ impact on historically underserved communities. Experience living or working in high-poverty communities, or a deep understanding of issues impacting such communities. 

·        Experience working in and/or with K–12 education via Local Education Agencies (county offices, districts or charters), including as a teacher or coaching educators. Experience managing learning or continuous improvement networks or cohorts a plus.

·        Familiarity with research/evidence regarding curriculum quality and implementation, Common Core State Standards (or the California State Standards), or proven track record of learning new comparable content quickly. Familiarity with education policy in California or nationally is a plus.

·        Strong project management skills, including the ability to set priorities, track multiple timelines, manage self and stakeholders to deadlines and deliverables, manage “up” and “across” regardless of positional authority, and ensure achievement of project goals.

·        Experience collecting, analyzing, summarizing and utilizing qualitative and quantitative data to inform project decisions, future programming or policy. Excellent written skills.

·        Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate and work with diverse groups and individuals and with educators and partner organizations.

·        Superb facilitation skills, including the capacity to facilitate meetings, trainings, workshops and technical assistance engagements (e.g., professional learning sessions, coaching).

·        Strong content development skills, including developing meeting materials, training and/or workshop materials, and/or other support materials (e.g., toolkits, resource libraries).

·        Proficiency in project management tools (e.g., Asana); Microsoft/Google Suites, particularly Excel/Google Sheets for data analysis and PowerPoint/Google Slides for communication/facilitation; experience with Stata a plus.

·        Experience with or awareness of digital marketing communications (e.g. campaigns, collateral development), and/or general website development (e.g. working with a CMS, web/user interface designers) a bonus for managing the Cal Curriculum project.

·        Bachelor’s Degree required.
