Academic Equity Director, Consulting  

Boston, Massachusetts

TNTP seeks a full-time Academic Equity Director to join our Consulting Team in the Northeast region. This position is based in a home office in Boston, Massachusetts or the surrounding area and is available immediately. Once our travel pause is lifted, frequent travel of up to 40% is required.

What You’ll Do

As an Academic Equity Director you will lead people and partner with clients on a portfolio of projects, contribute to our state and/or regional strategy and invest others in strategies that align work on individual projects with broader organizational strategies and goals for students. 

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Lead strategy and manage implementation for client projects that reflect equity focused consulting, including but not limited to:
  • Developing an equity focused vision and theory of action for contracts and projects, in partnership with clients, and monitoring progress towards goals to ensure outcomes for contracts are met
  • Designing a strategy and approach to meeting client needs across a range of talent, teacher and leader development, community engagement or other related workstreams that infuse equity-focused practices
  • Aligning systems, resources, and structures to support evolving program and project strategies
  • Supporting innovation and development of new services through sharing and learning from best practices and collaborating across functions
  • Contributing to state-level strategy and business development goals through proposal writing and generating ideas for new projects, partnerships, and relationships
  • Motivating and influencing clients to consistently integrate equity-focused mindsets and practices into their work, including but not limited to:
  • Cultivating and managing client relationships that foster trust through authentic engagement and ensure client satisfaction with our work
  • Directly facilitating sessions for school leaders on equity focused cultural proficiency
  • Lead thriving and inclusive teams and build staff capacity in equity and cultural proficiency work including but not limited to:
  • Effectively managing diverse teams, building inclusive team culture, and growing and developing staff to be successful in their work and career
  • Managing day to day work of project teams and/or colleagues towards contract and project goals
  • Actively shape and model the behaviors that support TNTP’s culture and support efforts to achieve organizational priorities related to diversity and inclusion

  • Have a passion and understanding for the education landscape and communities. You bring deep background knowledge in the current education landscape and a passion for embedding community engagement and involving communities in our work.
  • Build relationships. You have an ability to connect and build relationships with diverse communities. Bilingual abilities are a plus. 
  • Model cross-cultural agility. Authentic self-reflection, self- awareness, and high emotional intelligence are central to who you are, and you utilize these skills to shape a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion, that influences how you think about your work. You have an adept cultural understanding of yourself and use your understanding of yourself and others to build trusting relationships with direct reports, colleagues, and clients. 
  • Champion Your People. One of your greatest responsibilities will be to grow and develop people toward ambitious goals. You’re an inclusive leader, that honors diverse perspectives and makes the most of your team’s and individual’s unique strengths. 

Qualifications

  • A deep understanding and prior experience with equity-based, asset-oriented and culturally responsive practices, especially in teaching and learning
  • Prior experience demonstrating that strong instruction, cultural acuity, and emotional intelligence are indivisible 
  • Knowledge of research and theories behind diversity, equity and inclusion, change management, leadership and management, and project planning for impact
  • Experience designing and delivering strong professional development for adult learners and creating systems to support ongoing learning and development
  • Excellent relationship-building and influence skills, with demonstrated success continuously engaging broad and diverse stakeholder to act
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills including the ability to effectively share information, motivate, influence, and invest staff and clients in a clear vision for our work in Equity-Focused Consulting and its connection to TNTP’s mission and organizational strategy
  • Excellent project management skills and an ability to work efficiently and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience managing teams to tackle complex projects or take on organizational change efforts
