Position Location: Flexible within the United States. Occasional travel post-COVID.

The Center for Popular Democracy/CPD Action is seeking a full-time Worker Justice Organizing Manager.

The Center for Popular Democracy and CPD Action (together, CPD/A) work to promote equity, opportunity, and a dynamic democracy in partnership with innovative base-building organizations, organizing networks and alliances, and progressive unions across the country. We currently work with more than 53 affiliates in 34 states and Puerto Rico to build the strength and capacity of democratic organizations to envision and advance a pro-worker, pro-immigrant, racial and economic justice agenda. We are a rapidly-expanding, changing organization that partners with organizations across the country to build political power and win tangible victories that improve the lives of low-wage workers, immigrants, and communities of color.

About the Position

The Center for Popular Democracy/CPD Action (CPD/CPDA) is seeking a full-time lead organizer to unite working families in demands for a just economic recovery, with a primary focus on unemployed workers. The person in this role will develop and execute high-impact and game-changing digital strategies that empower our members to achieve concrete victories such as expansion of unemployment insurance and ensuring safe workplaces, while building power for a recovery that prioritizes working people over Wall Street.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Design and implement a scaled digital organizing strategy that engages unemployed workers in organizing conversations and into a leadership development pipeline, with a focus on people of color and low-wage workers;
  • Build an engaged base and strong leadership of people to shape narrative and policy demands around relief and economic recovery, and develop shared political analysis and community solidarity.
  • Develop and build leadership committees to drive policy campaigns through an inclusive process that develops individuals’ organizing and advocacy skills, generates bold actions, moves policy makers and educates the public;
  • Participate in strategy development and planning to grow the organizing program and advance campaigns;
  • Support a robust membership donor program that builds sustainability for long-term organizing; 
  • Use analytics to improve our messaging, programs and campaign to strengthen impact;
  • Provide coaching and technical assistance to digital organizers at CPD affiliates who are organizing unemployed workers.

Job Requirements 

  • 6 years of organizing and/or digital campaigning experience, with a sophisticated understanding of organizing flow, raps, relationship building, committee development, and leadership ladders. At least 2 years labor or worker justice organizing. 
  • A commitment to social, racial and economic justice and an understanding of the challenges facing low-wage workers, immigrant communities, and communities of color;
  • Strong listening, persuasion and facilitation skills. Experience with popular education curriculum development and coaching preferred.
  • Strong database management skills that inform analysis of the base and strategy.
  • Problem-solving perspective and ability to work well in teams;
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships of trust and mutual respect that move people into action;
  • Ability to work independently, navigate obstacles, discern priorities, and meet competing deadlines.
