The Center for Popular Democracy/CPD Action is seeking a Digital Director.

The Center for Popular Democracy and CPD Action (together, CPD/A) work to promote equity, opportunity, and a dynamic democracy in partnership with innovative base-building organizations, organizing networks and alliances, and progressive unions across the country. We currently work with more than 53 affiliates in 34 states and Puerto Rico, and build the strength and capacity of democratic organizations to envision and advance a pro-worker, pro-immigrant, racial and economic justice agenda. We are a rapidly-expanding, changing organization that partners with organizations across the country to build political power and win tangible victories that improve the lives of low-wage workers, immigrants, and communities of color.

About the Position:

The Communications Department at CPD/A is an integral part of our vision to build political power and win tangible victories that improve the lives of low-wage workers, immigrants, and communities of color. With your help, the department will ignite our base into action, strengthen our collective capacity for social change, and tell the story of our work, our affiliates, and our vision for the world as it could be. 

The Digital Director will drive digital communications strategy and oversee a growing digital team that will manage digital campaigns, conceptualizing the effective deployment of tactics such as email, SMS/text and social media. The ideal candidate will have experience managing staff, directing digital strategy, and a proven track record of success while across multiple issues areas and balancing competing priorities. The Digital Director will be able to work collaboratively with colleagues as well as work independently to drive work to completion. 

The Digital Director will report to the Chief of Communications.

Primary Responsibilities

The Digital Director will:

  • Oversee social media and online communications strategy across our channels, including developing and leading digital campaigns from start to finish, the development of thoughtful web content and email strategy, and proactively spotting opportunities to advance our work using digital communications;
  • Coordinate and collaborate with the Development Department on online fundraising campaigns and strategies;
  • Coordinate and collaborate with colleagues leading different issue campaigns on effective digital strategies, including digital organizing efforts embedded in programmatic teams;
  • Provide digital communications and capacity-building training within the organization and across the affiliates;
  • Thoughtfully respond to and develop systems to manage requests to post on channels, including managing a digital content calendar;
  • Develop strategies and tactics that demonstrate digital savvy and a strong understanding of the most effective tools available;
  • Develop and review metrics to evaluate digital strategies and adjust tactics accordingly. Keep informed of best practices in the field and innovate creative ways to engage and grow lists and followers;
  • Oversee a digital paid strategy with impact and effectiveness;
  • Supervise a growing digital team, creating a positive, inspiring environment in which team members can learn, grow, receive regular feedback, and thrive in their roles.

Job Requirements 

  • 8 years of digital experience that includes running robust online fundraising, advocacy, organizing, and acquisition programs and at least 10 years overall experience in related work;
  • Demonstrated success in providing high-quality supervision and working collaboratively to achieve strategic goals;
  • Demonstrated success developing digital campaigns in advocacy, political, or movement contexts and using online strategies that move people to offline action and up ladders of engagement; 
  • Experience working hand-in-hand with organizers to integrate offline and online engagement tactics;
  • Experience in technology management, online fundraising, email communications, list building, and using social media analysis and tracking tools;
  • Understanding of best practices for a variety of online channels, including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and Whatsapp;
  • Deep familiarity with both Broadcast and Peer-to-peer SMS platforms and best-practices;
  • Strong digital and online messaging and writing skills;
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to juggle multiple tasks, set priorities, effectively manage time and meet deadlines, and proven ability to work under pressure;
  • Familiarity with website development best-practices, conversion-centric design, and UI/UX design, with preference for experience with Drupal and Wordpress; 
  • Familiarity with using and managing CRM, with preference for experience using Every Action;
  • Ability to read, write, and edit copy in Spanish as well as English is a plus;
  • Ability to travel when it is safe to do so;
  • A desire to build the progressive movement and a demonstrated commitment to social, racial, and economic justice.
