The Center for Popular Democracy and CPD Action (together, CPD/A) work to promote equity, opportunity, and a dynamic democracy in partnership with innovative base-building organizations, organizing networks and alliances, and progressive unions across the country. We currently work with more than 50 partner organizations in 35 states, Puerto Rico, and D.C., and build the strength and capacity of democratic people’s organizations to envision and advance a pro-worker, pro-immigrant, racial and economic justice agenda. We are a rapidly-expanding, changing organization that partners with organizations across the country to build political power and win tangible victories that improve the lives of low-wage workers, immigrants, and communities of color.
About the Position
We seek an creative and experienced Director of Strategic Organizing for CPD/A’s Organizing Team. The person in this role will lead significant work to build bold, powerful organizing programs throughout the CPD/A network and in the broader movement. The person who fills this role will provide key leadership in CPD/A’s Base-Building department, which works to build substantial power in communities of color and low-income communities — power for the purpose of dismantling racial capitalism and achieving an alternative North Star society in which we all have the freedom to thrive.
Primary Responsibilities
The Director of Strategic Organizing’s primary responsibilities will include:
- In partnership with other senior organizers, providing core leadership to and management of CPD/A’s Organizing Team;
- Leading, in partnership with other senior organizers, key components of CPD/A’s ambitious organizing program. These components could include: large-scale outreach and membership recruitment operations, organizer and member leader training and development programs, strategic field experimentation, deep engagement with local community organizing groups to build powerful integrated organizing programs, the development of next generation local and national organizing models, the expansion of blended online-offline organizing programs, and more;
- Driving fundraising efforts to support and grow vital organizing, campaign, and political capacities at CPD/A and throughout the CPD/A network;
- Expanding and deepening partnership with powerful campaign, political, and other teams across CPD/A and the CPD/A network.
Job Requirements
- Significant experience as a manager, organizer and institution-builder;
- A track record of effectiveness in fundraising, base-building, campaigning, electoral engagement, staff and member training and leadership development, supervision, building and sustaining coalition and ally relationships;
- Ability to build and maintain relationships of trust with diverse organizations and partners;
- Excellent writing, training, and communication skills;
- Results-focused, team oriented, organized, and responsive;
- Willingness and ability to travel (once safe, given COVID-19) and work flexible hours as needed;
- Deep alignment with CPD/A’s theory of change and commitment to build strong people’s institutions;
- A deep and demonstrated commitment to social and racial justice issues and understanding of challenges facing immigrant communities, communities of color, and low and moderate income people.
