Are you comfortable working in a highly collaborative, consensus-oriented, open environment and as part of a globally-distributed team? Then you might be just the person we need.

Responsibilities

  • Performing day-to-day operational/DevOps tasks on Wikimedia’s public facing infrastructure (deployment, maintenance, configuration, troubleshooting)

Pluses

  • Experience with advanced distributed storage (Swift, Ceph, etc) and database systems (Mysql, Postgres, Cassandra, etc.)

These are some of our upcoming projects you might be working on soon…

  • We are migrating the MediaWiki application to our internal Kubernetes platform and in the process are decomposing it into smaller, functional parts

  • At the same time we are making application deployments faster and more reliable to help our developers (both internal to the foundation and the volunteers) to see the fruits of their labor faster

  • Of course we are directly responsible for the  smooth and reliable operation of the MediaWiki application server platform and its dependencies (Memcached, etcd, kubernetes, …)

  • Our platform continues to grow and we are constantly implementing and improving existing orchestration and automation tooling to eliminate toil and to act as an enabler for the entire SRE team

  • We are also involved in keeping Wikimedia’s infrastructure secure in our high-velocity environment with staff and volunteers across the world
