Strategic Partnerships Associate


The Center for Court Innovation is a non-profit organization that works to create a fair, effective, and humane justice system by performing original research and helping launch reforms by guiding justice innovators, nationally and internationally. The Center creates operating projects that have been documented to reduce the use of jail and prison, assist victims of crime, and strengthen communities.

The Strategic Partnerships team is seeking an Associate to support government relations and private partnership duties. Reporting to the Deputy Director of Strategic Partnerships, this position is ideal for someone eager to gain access and exposure to professional experiences in non-profit lobbying, government relations, external affairs, and fundraising. Among other duties, the Associate would conduct government affairs research, assist with outreach to elected officials and their staff, and draft documents for internal and external coordination. The Associate would also provide support in event planning, funder research, donor engagement, donor data management, site visits, and other fundraising efforts as needed. The ideal candidate must possess excellent writing, organizational, and communication skills; be an independent, motivated worker; and be passionate about criminal and social justice issues. 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Departmental Support:

  • Assist with scheduling meetings with elected officials and other stakeholders, making phone calls to legislative offices, and copying and preparing materials for meetings and maintaining contact databases;
  • Assist the Deputy Director of Strategic Partnerships and Associate Director of Private Partnerships with special projects and research;
  • Provide planning and coordinate support for public events (in-person and virtual via Zoom, Google Meetings, and Skype) and other external affairs activities;
  • Participate in team check-ins, support off-site project visits and e-mail coordination as necessary.

Government Relations:

  • Monitor and track city and state legislation and policy trends related to the Center’s work;
  • Assist in primary research and produce internal written summaries to inform lobbying strategy to advance Center programs, policies and government investment with City and State electeds;
  • Assist in team coordination, planning and production of external materials that promote Center programs and priorities, such as Legislative committee testimony, data-backed info-graphics, and program updates.

Corporate and Individual Donor Engagement: 

  • Run donor reports in Salesforce;
  • Support donor engagement processes including drafting acknowledgement letters, coordinating donor thank-a-thons, and supporting donor appeals;
  • Provide support and research for fundraising efforts with corporations and individuals;
  • Support with events and planning, including those related to the Center’s 25th anniversary.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Undergraduate degree (required) and 1-2 years of related experience in government, fundraising, or external relations. 
  • Demonstrated interest in public policy, government, criminal and social justice
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, presentation, and writing skills
  • Open to learning, team oriented, strong attention to detail and excellent written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Google Drive, and Microsoft Office Suite required; Salesforce familiarity preferred.

Position Location: Midtown, Manhattan; currently working remotely until required to be in office (tbd).
