General Interest
The Aquatic Life Institute is looking for dedicated people to join our fully remote team in a variety of roles, including senior leadership positions, part-time and project-based positions, internships, and volunteer roles. If you are interested in working with ALI to positively impact the lives of aquatic animals, please submit a general application. Our team will reach out if there is a good fit for a role.
About ALI
The overarching aim of ALI is to support and accelerate activities that positively impact aquatic life. Working in tandem with certifiers, industry professionals, existing nonprofits, and legislators, ALI is a central and pivotal organization in efforts to (1) improve the welfare of farmed aquatic animals globally and (2) reduce the number of wild fish used for feed and reduce their suffering at the time of catch.
Areas for Involvement
Areas of expertise or interest include, but are not limited to:
- Aquaculture, fisheries
- Ethology, marine biology, positive welfare
- Industry research, consumer trends
- Legislation
- Conservation
- Public education
- Communications, social media, graphic design
- Community organizing
Qualifications
- A passion for Aquatic Life Institute's core values
- Strong self-direction, self-motivation, and ability to work with minimal supervision
- Strong written and oral communication skills, especially the ability to explain oneβs views clearly
- Curiosity about and ability to rapidly acquire knowledge in areas beyond current expertise
Preferred Attributes (we encourage you to apply even if you don't meet these):
- Graduate-level academic education in a relevant field
- Familiarity with fish welfare and the fishing industry.
- Familiarity with the animal advocacy movement and its strategies.
- Familiarity with effective altruism.
