Staff Attorney


The Staff Attorney is a full-time position within NACC’s training department, working to ensure legal professionals have the resources they need to provide high-quality representation of children, parents, and agencies.

Duties and Responsibilities

TRAINING

·      With NACC’s Training Manager and other relevant staff, collaborates on and contributes to training department strategic  work planning and budget, including contributing to initiatives around race equity and lived experience engagement

·      Participates in monthly training department meetings and regular supervision meetings, goals review, and performance evaluations with Training Manager

·      Builds external relationships to enhance the quality of the NACC training program

  • Drafts and refines curriculum for NACC-created training programs, including custom trainings for states and training series
  • Delivers onsite and virtual trainings, including member webinars, training series, custom state-based training, and “Red Book” trainings

·      Coordinates content, and drafts and edits articles for The Guardian, NACC’s quarterly law journal

·      Coordinates content for NACC monthly Member Webinars, including researching topics and presenters, preparing presenters, and moderating webinars

·      Creates, organizes, and stores materials, tools, and other resource information

CONFERENCE

  • Assists in conference abstract selection for annual NACC conference
  • Provides onsite and virtual conference support, including faculty preparation and moderating sessions
  • Presents at NACC’s annual conference and other national conferences as requested and needed

TEAM NACC

·      Participates in bi-weekly team meetings on Zoom (on-camera policy)

·      Supports other team members as needed, particularly NACC’s National Law School Student Organizer with law school outreach and engagement

 

Qualifications

 Minimum qualifications include:

  • Law degree from an ABA-accredited law school
  • Active bar membership in at least one jurisdiction
  • Minimum of 3 years practice experience as an attorney in the child protection system
  • Strong legal research and writing skills
  • Strong presentation, facilitation, and moderating skills
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and manage deadlines independently
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the NACC Team while working remotely
  • Ability to deliver full-day  and multi-day trainings
  • Commitment to advancing equity and combating institutional and structural racism and bias in the child protection system
  • Commitment to advancing authentic engagement of persons with lived expertise in NACC’s programs
  • Willingness to travel (up to 20%) every other month or as needed

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Certified Child Welfare Law Specialist (if not certified, must become certified during first year on staff)
  • Lived experience in the child protection system
