JOB DESCRIPTION:

Sacred Spaces’ Consulting Department is growing, and we are beginning to fill new Director positions for each of our primary practice areas:

  • Youth Safeguarding — supporting Jewish youth-serving organizations such as camps, day schools, synagogues, and community centers in their efforts to prevent youth maltreatment and take responsible action should maltreatment occur.
  • Institutional Abuse in Work and Communal Environments — partnering with organizations to create safer, more respectful, and more equitable environments for those who work at or access their organizations.
  • Elder Abuse — working with community organizations, like synagogues, JCCs, and long-term care facilities to promote respect, agency, and safety for older adults.

Directors will report to the Vice President of Consulting and will join a small, but strong team currently in place. Directors will work with the VP to increase the capacity and scope of the consulting services and technical assistance offered to Jewish organizations in their respective practice areas. Directors are responsible for overseeing and managing their team through the completion of all related aspects of service delivery to client organizations, including scoping client engagements, designing client projects and proposal writing, fulfilling activities outlined in client agreements (see services below), and monitoring and incorporating feedback. Directors will also be expected to be thought leaders, both within and outside of Sacred Spaces, by remaining current on research and policy issues that can impact and shape our service delivery.

Consulting services include: 

  • Policy and protocol development and review
  • Coaching and consultation to organizational leadership, including when issues of misconduct have come to an institution’s attention
  • Training
  • Assessments
  • Creation of tools to support the delivery of services and aid clients in the implementation of our cutting edge resources, such as Aleinu [3], and Keilim [4].

Directors will work with the VP of Consulting, as well as other staff members and consultants, to identify areas of opportunity and gaps for Sacred Spaces in client service delivery and to help monitor project outcomes. While Directors will mainly focus on their subject areas, they will also be available to work across subject areas and foster a collegial, growth-oriented environment.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Directors lead a team of staff and consultants to support the delivery of high-quality client services. This includes:

  • Supervising staff members within their team, including onboarding  new staff members, weekly supervision meetings, and performance reviews.
  • Establishing clear project goals and objectives, delegation of project activities, and monitoring milestones to ensure on-time quality delivery.
  • Supporting, educating, and mentoring team members to promote the delivery of streamlined, quality services.
  • Creating processes to debrief client projects and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Working with VP of Consulting to identify and assign consultant support on projects.

Qualifications

Directors should have a proven history of success delivering technical assistance, consulting services, or leading large-scale projects, and be considered by other professionals in their field as an expert and leader. The following requirements are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in one of the relevant fields:
  • Building and managing a client-facing team and experience serving as a direct supervisor of multiple team members.
  • Direct service including, but not limited to, policy development, organizational assessments, thought leadership and research, program design and implementation, training, investigation or case consultation, and/or the development of best practices and resources.
  • Designing and implementing strategies to support culture shift in organizations or systems.
  • Passion for Sacred Spaces’ mission and approach.
  • Ability to create the vision and strategy for meeting client’s needs while maintaining a hands-on approach and willingness to dive into the details of the work.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including strong public speaking, facilitation and listening skills, and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong leadership skills, including supervisory experience of diverse teams and demonstrated ability to work with people from other backgrounds and experiences.
  • Experience with Jewish communal non-profit organizations and/or deep knowledge and familiarity across North American Jewish denominations, with openness and respect for diversity of values, culture, and Jewish practice. Experience working with Orthodox institutions and communities is helpful.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with nuanced understanding and to demonstrate critical thinking around complex situations.
  • Ability to assess needs and capacity of organizations seeking services and to respond to emerging project needs and priorities.
  • Experience with collecting and evaluating measurable objectives and outcomes for client projects.
  • Excellent understanding of trauma-informed practices within organizational settings.
  • Willingness to travel 7-10 times per year.
