Data Manager

The Data Manager is in charge of maintaining our internal data systems and managing our voter file and EveryAction data. This person will work to support the Organizing and Campaigns directors in the design of the organization’s campaign plans, spearhead the turfing of organizers, and lead analysis of the field team’s voter contact metrics. This person will also work with the Communications Director and Development Director to track data related to our list growth, donors, and other metrics.This position is a part time contract position and reports directly to the Executive Director.


  • Ability to use different data sets, particularly census and voter data, to inform field and organizing plans
  • Attention to detail, commitment to accuracy, and ability to think a few steps ahead in order to deliver products in a timely manner
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including translating complex data subjects into concise summaries, recommendations, and plans for non-technical staff
  • Willingness and commitment to learning new technical skills


  • Spearhead the turfing of our voter universe
  • Work with the Organizing Director on the development of campaign plans, creating campaign metrics that measure the Organizing program’s performance, and the creation of a goals ramp
  • Use voter data and data models to develop targeting strategy and analysis to inform campaigns and other organizing efforts
  • Translate data into easy-to-read spreadsheets, dashboards, and visualizations to provide ongoing analysis and insights for our field program
  • Support the testing and optimization analysis, reporting, and planning processes to help our team learn what works, what doesn’t, and how to establish best practices
  • Assist with the development, maintenance, and enhancement of internal data systems and reporting framework
  • Respond to a range of priority database support requests from our Organizing team. Provide timely support on technical issues for staff at all levels of technical knowledge
  • Train staff on voter file data, data management systems, reporting, and other topics as needed
  • Manage and enhance volunteer recruitment database, virtual dialers, and text messaging programs
  • Analyze email and other digital campaign performance through EveryAction
  • Assist with social media analytics and reporting
  • Support the overall data needs of the organization


  • Four years of working experience in civic engagement, political, or issue advocacy
  • At least two years of experience managing and manipulating voter file data (NGP VAN,EveryAction, Catalist, TargetSmart, etc.) and application of models for advocacy, membership and/or political campaign organizations
  • Extensive experience with Excel and Google Sheets
  • Experience training and supporting staff in learning new skills
  • Familiarity with any of the following a plus: Python, R, SQL, Tableau, Google Data Studio, EveryAction, QGIS or other mapping software

Pay and Position Details: Pay is commensurate with experience between $25-$30/hr. This position is temporary until the project is completed (up to 10 hrs/week for an estimated 3-6 months).
