LOCATION: Fully remote, must be based in the United States, and must be able and willing to work East Coast hours
Masa Group [1] is looking for an entry-level Communications Contractor to join our team on a retainer basis to support the work of our consultant collaborator, MountainGem Advocacy & Communications [2]. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting our organization and our clients’ communications efforts, and maintaining effective communication channels with various stakeholders. As an independent contractor, you will work approximately 32 hours per week on a retainer basis, with a contract duration of 6 months, with the possibility of extension.

Responsibilities:
- Assist in the development, creation, and copyediting of engaging content for a variety of platforms, including social media, traditional media, and website updates. This includes drafting emails, newsletters, articles, speeches and quotes, talking points, reports, letters, promotional content, and other written materials. This includes performing research as necessary. Â
- Support the communications team in building and maintaining relationships with media outlets, journalists, and influencers. Assist in preparing press releases, media advisories, story pitches, media kits, articles, and responding to media inquiries and rapid response communications needs; manage and build press lists.
- Collaborate with internal and external teams to gather information and insights for content creation, including attending any relevant coalition or planning meetings, ensuring accuracy and alignment with clients’ priorities, messaging, and voice.
- Create visually appealing graphics, infographics, and promotional materials for social media and print.
- Monitor media coverage, specific reporters as needed, and industry trends to identify opportunities for proactive outreach and engagement, and to uplift clients’ work and stories.
- Engage with external partners, stakeholders, and media contacts to foster positive relationships and promote collaboration.
- Monitor and analyze communications metrics—including media hits, social media metrics, email/newsletter analytics, etc—to assess the effectiveness of campaigns and strategies, making recommendations for improvements.
- Stay current with communications trends, tools, and best practices to continually enhance and improve our communications efforts.
- Experience creating custom infographics strongly preferred but not required.
- Experience with social justice and/or policy advocacy communications preferred.
- Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, or related field; or commensurate professional experience.
- Experience with working remotely
- Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, with the ability to convey messages clearly and concisely.
- Advanced knowledge of Google Workspace and Microsoft Suite software and advanced computer and technical skills. Functional experience and working knowledge of Google Workspace, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, MailChimp, and Adobe Creative Suite along with an understanding of WordPress and SquareSpace.
- Familiarity with various social media platforms and an understanding of social media trends. Comfortable using communication tools and analytics software.
- A creative mindset with the ability to generate innovative ideas and solutions.
- A demonstrated track record of success and reliability in fast-paced work environments with the ability to work efficiently, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet tight deadlines.
