ABOUT THE POSITION

The Global Head of Finance (GHF) will have the opportunity to lead and develop Imaginable Future's (IF) finance systems, policies, and practices. This team member accomplishes their work by collaborating with the Global Head of Operations & Strategic Projects, the Managing Partner, and senior leaders. As an organizational leader, the GHF will be a trusted advisor in regard to Imaginable Future's accounting and budgeting principles, and will lead continuous improvement in finance operations and update IF's practices using a Justice, Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion (JEDI) framework. Additionally, as the Head of the Finance Department, the GHF will have the opportunity to build and modify the finance team structure to meet IF's financial operations needs as the organization increases partnerships domestically and internationally.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Strategic Leadership

  • Advise Managing Partner and other senior leaders on financial planning, budgeting, and policy matters.
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute the annual budget and audit processes across several entities in alignment with IF's JEDI framework.
  • Assess and update current systems, policies, internal controls, accounting standards, and procedures to ensure financial regulatory compliance.
  • Provide internal training opportunities for budgeting practices, new internal controls, and changing financial systems.
  • Assess and implement administrative and operational accounting services such as grants payment processing, payroll, accounts payable, and purchasing to increase internal efficiencies.
  • Effectively communicate on all financial matters, including with the Board of Directors, as required.
  • Complete annual portfolio valuation exercise for for-profit portfolio of investees to assess financial stability and profitability.
  • Partner with grant and investment teams and legal team to shepherd, review and approve all grants and investments.
  • Partner with HR to support administration of payroll and 401K administration.
  • Manage Finance Associate.

Finance and Accounting

  • Build and maintain relationships with outsourced partners to provide quality financial service delivery (such as back-office accountant, bank, payroll provider).
  • Leverage technology to maximize efficient and effective finance management, recommend process and financial software improvements, as required.
  • Work in partnership with funder-facing staff to develop forecasts and track secured funds.
  • Build budgeting and analytical tools and processes to support department teams, enabling timely data-driven decision making, financial accountability, and executive insight into budget and financial trends.
  • Develop and oversee projection processes and reporting mechanisms; conduct appropriate analyses to inform decision making, such as variance analyses and new initiative implementation.
  • Ensure that financial policies and procedures are in compliance to legal policies in each market IF operates in to provide reasonable assurance that IF's assets are protected.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Passion for social impact and commitment to leading with and advancing JEDI principles.
  • Demonstrated commitment to IF's core values, mission, and programs and to serving investees.
  • Expert at developing internal processes that are aligned with organizational values and vision.
  • Comfort and familiarity with fund management and accounting.
  • Deep appreciation for analytical rigor and clarity.
  • Sharp communication skills including excellence in writing, presenting, and training.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and partners around the world.
  • Self-reliant, problem solving with a results and customer service orientation.
  • MBA or equivalent degree (preferred).
  • 10+ years of experience in business finance; 3+ years at a fund (preferred).

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

The estimated annual salary for this role is $224- $280K, however the exact salary will vary, based on location and experience.
