Title: Grant Accountant
Reports to: Associate Director, Finance
Location: Boston, MA (US-based remote OK)
Classification: Full time, salaried (exempt), Grade 4
Position Summary
The Grant Accountant will serve as the finance team’s focal point for grant accounting and reporting for key grants and cooperative agreements. This involves participating in the budgeting process, understanding staff allocations, and generating reports as needed. The position will also serve as accounting generalist occasionally, and must be willing to be cross-trained across several functions.
The Grant Accountant reports to the Associate Director of Finance, and works closely with the Staff Accountant, CFAO, Finance & Operations Officer and relevant Programs and Development staff.
Responsibilities
- Grant Reporting - Ensure timely and accurate internal and external financial reporting for grants and agreements on a periodic basis and as required
- Participates in monthly, quarterly and yearly closings, including balance sheet account reconciliations, bank reconciliations and recording adjusting journal entries
- Reviews employee travel expense reports and accurately account for the expenses
- Pull backup documentation as needed and requested by donors
- Participates in annual agency audits and any project audits, including preparation of audit schedules and other documentation per auditors’ request
- Participates in the budgeting process as needed
- Cross-trains and serves as a backup for Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable
- Ability and willingness to be cross-trained in other areas of the agency’s accounting needs
Desired Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
- 3-5 years experience working in a non-profit organization
- Strong communication, professional presence, personal initiative, highest integrity and diplomatic interpersonal skills
- Ability to remain highly organized with a strong attention to detail
- Analytical, detail-oriented, possessing sound judgment

Compensation:
