Communications Coordinator


OVERVIEW:

Launched in 1983 as Public Interest Projects, a 501(c)(3) public charity, NEO Philanthropy is a New York based national leader in innovative philanthropic solutions. We lead large-scale collaborative grantmaking funds on a range of social justice issues, provide fiscal sponsorship and management to projects and campaigns, manage donor advised funds and develop organization and field-focused capacity building initiatives.

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

NEO Philanthropy seeks a highly creative, proactive, and values-aligned communicator to join our growing team. Reporting to the Deputy Director of Communications, the Communications Coordinator must have a desire to tell compelling stories across a range of platforms. This role will support NEO Philanthropy’s overall strategy and strategic communications goals by producing high quality content, managing NEO’s digital platforms, and elevating NEO’s internal communications processes and products.

 

The individual hired for this position must be collaborative and have strong interpersonal skills as they will work closely across NEO staff – particularly the communications team, key executive leadership, program staff and management including our fiscal sponsorship, donor services, and collaborative fund staff.  

 

LOCATION:

NEO Philanthropy has its headquarters in NYC and the executive team is based in that office. NEO Central staff follow a remote first model that allows staff to work remotely, within the US, based on the responsibilities of their role. It is our expectation that this role may be remote with in-person meetings required up to 4 times per year.

 

VACCINE REQUIREMENT:

NEO follows CDC guidance regarding staying up to date with COVID-19 vaccinations and boosters. Accordingly, and in order to ensure the wellness and safety of our staff to the greatest extent possible, NEO requires the COVID-19 vaccination and boosters for all staff. Requests for medical and/or religious exemptions from the vaccination requirement will be considered on an individual basis.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Writing and Content Creation

●       Produce content and craft compelling stories in collaboration with NEO staff that highlights programmatic priorities, for website blog and other platforms, as part of NEO brand/marketing/PR strategy;

●       Support Deputy Director of Communications in the creation and implementation of an editorial content calendar.

●       Write and disseminate social media (Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn) posts, blogs, announcements, and statements.

●       Produce visual content for social media, internal presentations, and external reports using templates and tools from graphic design software.

●       Draft and edit/update fact sheets, information kits, and branding material.

●       Ensure visual and narrative consistency and quality of the NEO brand, including presentation and accuracy of NEO information, through all collateral and communications activities.

Support for Website, Social Media, Communications Platforms:

●       Manage NEO website content, generate and post content, update website financial and staff information.

●       Manage NEO social media channels on a daily basis, curate and author content, and monitor conversations on issues of importance to NEO. In addition it’s important to understand the importance of tracking metrics in the pursuit of goals.

Support for Department Processes and Administration

●       Generate and maintain  NEO Brand files and staff guides

●       Act as first point of contact for NEO Central staff brand support

●       Support NEO staff in utilizing a full range of communications materials, strategies and best practices to provide guidance to NEO’s partners, collaborators, and grantees. As some of these requests will be time-sensitive it is important to be highly dependable, responsive and solutions-oriented.    

●       Support comms-related priorities of DEII (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Intersectionality) implementation and help ensure a racial equity lens on NEO communications.

●       Support implementation of NEO communications readiness and reactive communications protocols with a sense of urgency and deadline-driven mindset.

●       Perform other job-related responsibilities and projects to further the mission of NEO as assigned by the deputy director.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful candidate will be collaborative in nature, have a strong instinct to innovate and experiment with new ideas, substantial working knowledge of, and practice in, social media and digital communications best practices, and a deep interest in or knowledge about equity and anti-racist intersectional framing and communications.

Additional qualifications include:

Required:

●       Three (3) to five (5) years of related communications experience, ideally working with a social change, non-profit, or similar organization, foundation or for-profit entity, within the social justice arena; knowledge of philanthropy a plus.

●       At least one-to-two (1-2) years digital communications experience, including social media management and content creation.

●       Excellent writing skills, particularly drafting and editing web copy and social media; strong verbal communications skills.

●       Experience using Microsoft office tools; Openness to learning and using additional software including: Zoom webinar facilitation; social media management/monitoring tools such as Meltwater, Hootsuite, and Google Alerts; and design tools like Canva.

●       Basic visual skills for researching and selecting photos for website and social media.

●       Self-motivated and ability to work with different levels of personnel, including programmatic staff and executive leadership, to move projects and tasks to completion.

●       Commitment to equity and reducing disparities based on race, ethnicity, immigration status, sovereignty, gender, sexual orientation/gender identity, disability and socioeconomic status.

Preferred:

●       Keen research skills, including vetting, media scans and reporting; adept at performing due diligence on content accuracy, good fact-checker and proofreader. Understanding of basic server and website platforms, including html and CSS and Wordpress, for handling routine website posts and page updates; crafting e-communications in Constant Contact, Mailchimp or similar formats; Salesforce adept.

●       Experience managing consultants, including work plans, timelines and contracts.

●       Related BA or BS degree; equivalent education and work experience also considered.
