PDK is looking for a bright and hard-working individual who is passionate about ensuring the future of public education through Grow Your Own preservice programs. PDK’s Educators Rising (created from Future Educators of America) serves students in every state by providing recognition, networking, and support to guide them into a profession in education. PDK is looking for a talented professional who can not only think strategically but is able to follow through on campaigns, press releases, and deliverables. 

The Senior Manager or Director of Marketing, Communications, and Policy is a senior leadership position that reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer. The Director will work in partnership with the CEO and key staff members to develop a team responsible for the strategy and direction of the program.

THE POSITION

This is an exciting time for PDK’s Educators Rising with growth in the interest from districts and states on our Grow Your Own educator pathway initiatives, our commitment to diversity in education, and our efforts to inspire middle school, high school, and collegiate preservice candidates into education careers. We need someone who can help develop a communications and policy strategy and direction while also directing the marketing efforts of the organization. This position is remote with the requirement of at least four in-person staff meetings a year.

PRIMARY DUTIES  

  • Develop and refine the organization’s strategy around marketing, communications, and policy.
  • Promote the PDK and Educators Rising brand to the public and in the educator circles.
  • Partner with like-minded organizations to develop better education policy and reforms while sharing best practices with coalition partners.
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships coalition partners through exceptional emotional intelligence and customer service skills. This includes engaging partners, negotiating policy and politics while delivering on meetings and presentations.
  • Track federal and state policy and political developments behind education and direct strategic responses for PDK and Educators Rising on those developments as appropriate.
  • Work with other departments across Educators Rising to identify needs on a regular basis, as well as guide and direct the marketing and communication efforts of the organization. 
  • Develop quarterly tactical plans designed to achieve initiative targets and report on said targets to staff and leadership.
  • Demonstrate superb organizational and follow-up abilities including implementation, support, and up-to-date policy expertise.
  • Track and catalogue policy across the organization.
  • Duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Exceptional emotional intelligence, compassion, and self-awareness combined with strength of conviction, and “steel” in the face of adversity. Oh, and humor too.
  • Higher education in the form of a doctorate or MBA, OR commensurate work experience preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in K-12 education communications, marketing, policy, advocacy, coalition building, issue-based campaigns and outreach. This requires familiarity with the influencers and voices in K-12 education policy and reform. This could include previous experience as an educator or administrator.
  • Demonstrated understanding of school, district, state and national education policy development.
  • Extensive and demonstrated knowledge of current and historical K-12 education issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to convey complex K-12 education policy in clear and accessible written and oral communication.
  • Proven track record of excelling in a fast-paced work environment and managing time effectively.
  • Ability to synthesize the needs of the organization with the opinion and will of other leaders including directors and c-suite.
  • Exceptional eye toward graphic layout and design.
  • Exceptional communicator – verbal and written.
  • Experience implementing and using CRM/databases preferred.
  • Former educator (preferably principal or superintendent) with ability to open doors, preferred.

COMPENSATION

Educators Rising is prepared to offer $75K to $85K as a base compensation for the role, negotiable depending on experience, as well as generous 403(b), paid time off, and health benefits.
