Data Sales Representative

The Data Sales Representative works with corporations, nonprofit organizations, media companies and other organizations to secure licensing agreements that provide revenue for OpenSecrets. Responsible for handling inbound requests, managing the sales platform and conducting outreach to potential licensees. Coordinates with OpenSecrets departments to streamline and facilitate delivery of data to  customers.  Consults with Operations, Research and other departments to develop new data products. Manages contracts and invoices for licensing agreements.

This dynamic organization was formed by the merger of the Center for Responsive Politics and the National Institute for Money in State Politics in 2021.


The sales representative

  • Serves as the primary contact for data requests, including revenue-producing licensing agreements
  • Maintains relationships with existing past and present licensees
  • Manage and develop revenue goals
  • Gathers data requirements for licensing requests, consulting with technical and research teams as necessary
  • Prepares pricing proposals, subject to approval by the Director of Operations
  • Tailors proposals and presentations based on client and market sector
  • Build client pipeline
  • Provides regular reports progress toward goals
  • Updates pricing model, as necessary
  • Updates marketing materials, as necessary
  • Advises Senior Team on potential markets and product opportunities
  • Reviews usage reports to conduct outreach to possible licensees
  • Develops and adheres to organizational standards and guidelines
  • Represents the organization at events
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Prior experience as a sales representative or contract manager
  • Excellent skills in Google Suite
  • Familiarity with CRM best practices
  • Excellent negotiating and selling skills
  • Excellent writing skills in English
  • Attention to detail
  • Good organizational and time-management skills


  • Bachelor's degree
  • Experience in data licensing
  • Knowledge of laws governing money in politics
  • Knowledge of Every Action CRM


  • The salary range for this position is $60,000–$70,000/year, based on experience and qualifications.
  • We are a fully remote organization and this person can be based anywhere in the U.S.
