Email Specialist Writer 🔥


Reporting to the Senior Manager of Digital Marketing, this position will play a key role in communicating Southern Poverty Law Center’s (SPLC) and the SPLC Action Fund’s work and position on issues to donors, supporters, and activists through email. Keeping these constituencies up to date with SPLC’s work and financially support is crucial for accomplishing organizational goals.

Primary Job Functions: 

  • Draft, edit and write compelling various emails, including membership renewals, special fundraising appeals, weekly digital newsletter, timely and responsive updates on SPLC’s breaking news, commentaries on current events, calls to action to supporters, and other email topics as needed;
  • Set up and QA emails and email landing pages;
  • Track and create reports of donations made through the SPLC website, and make actionable suggestions for improving online marketing;
  • Devise and execute A/B tests for emails, landing pages and social media;
  • Create and manage the outbound email calendar;
  • Ensure integrity of internet related contact information and preferences in donor database;
  • Devise constituent engagement strategies;
  • Stay informed about current events as they relate to SPLC donors and subscribers; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications - 

Education and Related Work Experience: 

  • Minimum three (3) years of experience writing, editing and executing fundraising-based email programs, preferably in a campaign, political or non-profit organization;
  • Proficiency with CSS, HTML – must be able to make code changes to SPLC donation pages and email templates; and
  • High school diploma or GED.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

  • Strong organizational skills that reflect ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail;
  • Exceptional communication skills, including clear, concise writing and ability to frame complex issues for supporters and the public;
  • Demonstrated proactive approaches to problem-solving with strong consultation skills and decision- making capability;
  • Highly resourceful team-player, with the ability to also be extremely effective independently;
  • Proven ability to adapt to various competing demands, and demonstrate the highest level of customer service and response;
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve high performance goals and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment;
  • Knowledge and proficiency with Content Management Systems and online fundraising tools;
  • Commitment to ideals of justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion; and
  • Commitment to fostering an anti-racist work culture and to anti-racist principles and learning. 

Compensation:  

This is an exempt role and the minimum starting salary is $60,517 annually. Salary will be commensurate with experience. 

Work Designation:

This role has the following work designation options:

  • Remote Distant: Will work remotely and is not expected to work in the states in which SPLC has an office or in an SPLC Office. 

Other Special Considerations:

This job is performed under general office conditions and is not subject to any strenuous physical demands or dangerous conditions.
