In this new role, you will be responsible for implementing our new visual brand guidelines, establishing consistency across our visual products, and creating impactful visual content. You will also ensure that all of Protect Democracy’s products — including our publications, website, social media platforms, and email content — help us further our mission through effective visual communication. Additionally, as the primary point of contact for all of our design needs, you will play a key role in developing future creative strategies that further our impact by coordinating our visual strategy with diverse stakeholders from across the team and beyond the organization.

The ideal candidate is a highly organized collaborator with keen attention to detail, a strong eye for visual composition, and an ability to meet deadlines both as an individual contributor and in collaboration with others. A commitment to our mission and a passion for defending and strengthening our democracy are essential.

Protect Democracy recognizes that there is strength in diversity and strongly encourages candidates from diverse backgrounds and from across the political and ideological spectrum to apply. You can work from any location in the United States.

  • Establish and maintain relationships with external creative vendors and outside agencies, including identifying mission-benefitting partnerships and collaborations where needed.
  • Spot potential brand risks stemming from the visual elements of our work.
  • Train staff to leverage visual design for mission impact while maintaining visual brand discipline.

Requirements for application:

  • Passion and commitment to our mission to defend and strengthen our democracy.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent (preferably a B.A. or B.F.A. in graphic design or related fine arts fields, but not required).
  • A minimum of 4-7 years of experience in graphic design and digital media.

  • Understanding of trends and best practices for using graphics to communicate effectively via digital channels and with diverse audiences.
  • Ability to plan ahead and meet deadlines on complex and multi-stakeholder projects.
  • Comfort giving, receiving, and cherishing feedback.

Pluses, but not required:

  • Animation or video production experience.
