Jimmy Fund Golf is one of the oldest and largest organized charity golf programs in the nation. The program supports over 125 annual volunteer-run community golf tournaments around the country. Jimmy Fund Golf events collectively raise millions of dollars for groundbreaking research and care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute each year. Jimmy Fund Golf stands alone as a comprehensive example of the good that can be achieved by hundreds of volunteer tournament organizers and thousands of golfers who are united in the desire to connect their love for the game of golf to a higher cause - funding cancer care and research. The Jimmy Fund Golf Officer position is responsible for helping the program and the entire Division achieve their revenue goals by assisting a large portfolio of volunteer-run community (third-party) events and consulting with them on fundraising best practices and event logistics. In addition, this position manages all new tournament operations/inquiries and third-party/community event educational resources, in addition to various other duties.

 

This position is considered remote, up to 1 day in the office at 10 Brookline Place, Brookline, MA each week. DFCI guidelines state that employees must reside in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, or Rhode Island. Resume and cover letter required with application submission.

 

Responsibilities:

Main Point of Contact for Volunteer-Run (third-party) Community Jimmy Fund Golf Events

Primary tournament contact for a large portfolio of Jimmy Fund Golf (JFG) events cumulatively raising approximately $750,000+, including many of our staff-assisted events that are require more hands-on fundraising and logistical assistance.

·        The primary tournament contact’s role includes:

o   Ensuring thorough support and stewardship of tournament organizers.

o   Supporting JFG team on high revenue producing events as assigned.

o   Increasing/maintaining fundraising through continual analysis of revenues and expenses:

§ Create pre-season plan with specific goals for each tournament.

§ Attend event committee meetings to provide support and guidance.

§ Manage on-going revenue projections for each tournament.

§ Keep records of suggested/implemented ideas to increase fundraising.

§ Complete annual post-tournament analysis & suggest new areas for change/growth.

o   Serve as primary point of contact for new tournament prospects with high revenue potential.

o   Complete approximately 25 annual donor visits. Follow up each visit with a timely call report.

o   Ensure tournament directors remain compliant with JFG and DFCI policies/procedures.

·        Attend select JFG events as assigned to speak on behalf of DFCI and/or provide logistical support.

Manage New Tournament Operations

·        Set annual goals and create strategic plan for recruiting of new community/third-party golf events (traditional tournaments, mini golf, golf marathons, etc.) under the direction of the Senior Assistant Director.

·        Track and manage all new business inquiries, conduct outreach in a timely manner, and manage revenue projections:

o   Assign new tournaments to other staff members as needed.

o   Work with IS and Communications teams on systems for receiving inbound inquiries.

o   Assist senior JFG staff with all new business recruitment initiatives.

·        Strategize on recruiting new Jimmy Fund Golf events from internal and external prospects

o   Generate referrals from other Philanthropy departments and DFCI community:

§ Build a timeline for meeting with other departments to educate them on Jimmy Fund Golf and to ask for their help in recruiting new tournaments from their donors.

§ DFCI campus marketing strategy including outreach to faculty & staff.

§ Grateful patient outreach.

§ Work with Research Dept. to identify suitable prospect lists.

·        Evaluate recruitment strategies:

o   Review monthly report on new events with Senior Assistant Director and Assistant Vice President.

o   Compile year-end report to analyze results and recommend changes.

Management of Third-Party/Community Event Resources and Educational Plans

·        Coordinate JFG monthly newsletter, including content planning, coordination with Philanthropy Communications and distribution.

·        Management and upkeep of JFG Educational Resources for staff and tournament directors including:

o   Tournament Support Resource Library.

o   Tournament Director Binder.

o   Online Golf Resource Center.

o   Staff responsibilities at any event they attend.

Administrative/Other Tasks

·        Manage other administrative projects as assigned to help meet Jimmy Fund Golf’s Operating Plan goals.

·        Manage the data integrity for all prospects within donor and event portfolios.

·        Assist with internal golf fundraising events as they are developed.

·        Attend various events throughout the year to promote Jimmy Fund Golf as a brand ambassador.

·        Create project plans and debrief reports as assigned.

·        Develop a working knowledge of all golf systems (ClearView, Luminate, EMS, PeopleSoft, Outlook, Microsoft Teams, Sharepoint, etc.).

·        Manage intern on a rotational basis in conjunction with the two other Officers and supervise workload and overall internship experience (as applicable).

·        Collaborate with other teams in the Philanthropy Office to carry out mutually agreed upon goals, action items to assist all parties in reaching their annual goals.

·        Keep Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity (I, D,&E) guidelines at the forefront of daily work to foster building an inclusive team & work environment and engage diverse event supporters.

Other Projects/Duties as Assigned

·        Reports to the Senior Associate Director. This position may have supervision of one intern and will seek major decision-making authority from direct supervisor. However, independent decision-making on day-to-day tasks and good judgment is required for dealing with Institute donors, trustees, volunteers, senior staff, and confidential information.

 

Qualifications:

·        Bachelor’s degree required with a minimum 3-5 years of professional experience. Event management experience required.

·        Organized and detail oriented with excellent written and oral communication skills; possess the ability to work well with DFCI Departments and donor/volunteer constituencies; juggle multiple projects and work independently in a very fast-paced environment.

·        Very strong writing and proof-reading skills are necessary. Project management, customer service & public speaking experience is a plus.

·        Strong word processing and Excel skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office is required.

·        A high degree of confidentiality must always be exercised.

·        Some travel, attending events and off-site volunteer committee meetings on a regular basis is required. Speaks publicly on behalf of Dana-Farber & The Jimmy Fund at several events. Requires light lifting for event set-up. Weekend and night work are required occasionally. Must be able to attend events in various states (mostly Massachusetts & New England).
