assistant Director, Social Media 🔥


Summary: The Assistant Director of social media will create a comprehensive social media strategy for ASTHO, aligning teams across the organization and developing a unified voice for ASTHO across our four social platforms: Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, and YouTube. The Assistant Director will stay on top of social media trends and advise on best practices. The position will understand and advocate for content that is high performing, while keeping the organization’s strategic plan top-of-mind. Additionally, this position will help support ASTHO’s newscast, Public Health Review Morning Edition.

This position will report to ASTHO’s director of media and public relations and work closely with ASTHO’s content development team on graphic and digital design.

Location: Remote

Anticipated salary: $80,000 Extended experience: up to $97,000 if experience exceeds expectations

Principle Functions:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive social media strategy that captures the overall voice of the organization.

  • Create and manage an editorial calendar to ensure strategic alignment across teams and the organization.

  • Identify tactics that drive readership and engagement growth and amplify them across channels.

  • Set growth goals for ASTHO’s social media presence and align resources with vision.

  • Write and edit content and posts.

  • Develop engaging multimedia and visual content, working closely with ASTHO’s two graphic designers, content development team, and public relations team.

  • Train ASTHO members on best social media practices.

  • Assist in the management of ASTHO’s daily newscast, Public Health Review Morning Edition.

  • Meet with project teams and advise them on social media approaches as related to their communications goals.

  • Recommend and execute paid campaigns for various programs and events.

  • Compile and present monthly analytics report to public relations team.

  • Partner with state and territorial public information officers to amplify the work of ASTHO members.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • 5-7 years of experience executing social media plans, a focus on healthcare is preferred

  • A bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or related field

  • Demonstrated track record leading and executing high-performing social media campaigns

  • Experience driving engagement and audience growth using organic and paid tactics

  • Someone with a sharp editor’s eye with strong attention to detail

  • Extensive experience writing social media copy

  • An understanding of YouTube optimization

  • Adept at SEO, SEM, and Google Analytics

  • Proficient in Canva

  • Strong written and oral communication skills
