This individual will be a key member of the Employer and Individual (E&I) Public Sector, Labor & Trust Sales Operations team and critical resource to Segment colleagues and leadership. Individual will be responsible for the Segment’s event strategy, process effectiveness, and maximization of budget dollars, as well as developing strategies for specific events and large meetings, working with our internal and external partners to successful execution.

The selected candidate will provide thought leadership, demonstrate a deep understanding of trends in events marketing, distribution channels and the competitive landscape, and serve as the segment representative with partners across the enterprise for launching event and meeting initiatives. The successful candidate will be naturally curious, a self-starter and continuously bring new and cutting-edge event planning practices and tactics forward.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Establish and execute a cohesive Events strategy that is in direct alignment with the Segment’s broader Marketing strategy and business plan
    • Leveraging knowledge of the business, the marketplace, and innovative relevant tools and approaches, work with leadership at least annually to develop a foundation and strawman from which the event plan and related decisions will be based.
  • Oversee and own the Public Sector, Labor & Trust marketing and events strategy and processes as a whole
    • Understand the business, his/her internal and external stakeholders, and its/their needs
    • Maintain collaborative relationships with partners within the organization and provide ongoing partnership to maximize their ability to successfully execute their own scopes of responsibility
    • Understand and deliver upon leadership’s information needs and budget requirements
    • Create and maintain procedures, tools, and documentation to ensure business continuity
    • Maintain up-to-date and accessible documentation of all segment events and sponsorships as a whole and at the event level
    • Identify opportunities to improve our approach to Marketing and Events
    • Provide relevant insights and thought leadership to inform leadership decision making
    • Optimize the contribution of the Marketing & Events Budget to sales growth, market penetration, and business goals
  • Oversee and execute on specific events
    • Receive and process all event and sponsorship requests, timely
    • Obtain needed approvals
    • Develop execution plan for approved events
      • Collaborating with applicable stakeholders to identify conference goals/requirements/specifications (e.g., objectives, agenda)
      • Determining resource needs
      • Gathering the appropriate planning team and develop project plan
      • Identify and engage applicable vendors to provide conference support and services, as needed (e.g., event management vendor, A/V staff, etc.)
      • Make recommendations and decisions on behalf of the Segment, engaging and informing Leadership as appropriate throughout the project
      • Supporting sales readiness through timely, transparent communications
      • Ensure that all conference project participants and workstreams are on track, on time and on budget
      • Provide regular updates to applicable stakeholders on project activities, and make appropriate recommendations/revisions, as needed (e.g., planning team, executive sponsors, vendors/partners)
      • Identify, source and obtain promotional items for conference participants (e.g., gifts, giveaways, incentives)
      • Manage conference activities on-site to ensure seamless execution and make real-time decisions/changes/adjustments, as needed (e.g., registration, materials, technology, meeting space, catering, exhibits, transportation)
      • Perform post-event evaluations, summarize, and identify enhancements for future events (e.g., surveys, post-mortem meetings, feedback sessions)

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 5+ years of direct experience in strategic and tactical event planning
  • 3+ years of experience in a deadline driven environment
  • 3+ years of applying project management skills and methods
  • 3+ years of demonstrating organization skills as an individual contributor and as a team leader in a matrix environment
  • 3+ years of managing and prioritizing several deliverables
  • 3+ years of influencing and collaborating with others
  • 3+ years of overseeing event budget and expenses
  • Ability to travel as required (average 10% - 15%) to participate in priority events and business strategy activities

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or marketing, event management, or similar field equivalent work experience
  • Experience managing events in Salesforce Events and Campaigns module
  • Experience managing events or campaigns in the Public Sector and/or Labor space, and knowledge of relevant requirements
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to see the bigger picture and then breaking it down to identify who and what is needed, by when, to execute successfully
  • Ability to successfully work independently with minimal direction
  • Ability to be flexible and work with ambiguity

California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New York City, or Washington Residents Only: The salary range for California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New York City, or Washington residents is $101,200 to $184,000. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
