Job Description The Instructional Designer II is responsible for working with stakeholders in the research, design and development of quality curriculum and course materials in support of the vision and mission of the college. The Instructional Designer II works to develop pedagogically effective distance learning and hybrid methodologies. This position requires a positive attitude toward their work, the mission of the institution, continuous learning,

collaboration, and providing quality service. Essential Functions
  • Employee will demonstrate TSTC Core values of Excellence, Accountability, Service and Integrity with internal and external stakeholders, customers, students and members of the community.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts on the creation and utilization of industry-driven competencies and learning objectives and the development and maintenance of course deconstruction outlines.
  • Identify and utilize appropriate tools, techniques, best practices, reference materials and innovative approaches that support the schools’ efforts to engage in all phases of curriculum deconstruction, development, assessment, and measurement of the achievement of competencies, learning objectives, and training goals.
  • Create assessments that link directly to learning objectives and competencies.
  • Evaluate and ensure the quality of each course within the context of the TSTC OSCQR rubric and ADA guidelines.
  • Provide insights and recommendations to stakeholders regarding selection of learning objects, activities and assessments based on Instructional Design Theory and Adult Learning Principles.
  • Assist the Instructional Designer III in meeting deadlines, maintaining schedules, and identifying risks early in the project and help to ensure the project stays within scope.
  • Work closely with stakeholders to develop innovative instructional programs that leverage new technologies and multimedia to deliver relevant, online content and engaging experiences.
  • Collaborate on state-of-the art and new developments in the field of curriculum development that affect the College’s specialty areas and program operations, identifying resources of use while supporting the design, development, and implementation of systematic curricular practices statewide.
  • Work collaboratively and effectively with organizational stakeholders throughout the College to identify and integrate student learning outcomes, competencies and learning objectives into the design, development, implementation, and management of instructional content, courses and projects to enrich teaching and learning.
  • Provides input to IDIII regarding processes and continuous quality improvement.
  • Manage multiple development projects at once and coordinate production work with Instructional Designer I.
  • Conduct needs assessments and strategic learning assessments to develop the basis for curriculum development or to update curricula.
  • Assist in the development of multimedia content as needed.
  • Keep up with current developments, trends and knowledge in emerging technologies.
  • Other duties as assigned
Education/Experience/Knowledge/Skills
  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of one year of instructional design experience working with faculty/instructors/subject matter experts to design, develop and support delivery of instruction.
  • Experience with the design, development and implementation of online delivery of education.
  • Extremely well-versed in application of design methodologies including but not limited to: ADDIE model, SAM, backward design, e-learning, competency-based education and interactive learning experiences.
  • Experience in designing authentic assessments and engaging course content.
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer satisfaction: exceptional skills in collaboration, consultation, communication, customer support, data analysis, and time management.
  • Strong Project Management skills and the ability to plan, organize and successfully coordinate multiple priorities to meet all deadlines and deliverables.
  • Ability to manage time and work independently.
  • Portfolio required.
  • Experience in higher education preferred.
  • Knowledge of Instructional Design Theory, Adult Learning
  • Principles and ADA Guidelines.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite, specifically docs, sheets and presentation software.
  • Proficiency and experience in industry standard tools such as authoring tools, as well as digital, graphics media, audio, animation, and video production tools, to create impactful content and courses. (HTML, XML, Adobe Creative Suite, Camtasia, Captivate, Storyline)
  • Skill in production and acquisition of instructional materials including graphics and interactive media elements.
  • Familiar with Learning management systems and their functions (Moodle, Canvas, etc.)
  • High level of research and needs analysis skills to develop and deliver meaningful learning experiences.
  • Ability to manage several projects simultaneously and to work with production schedules, deadlines and deliverables.
  • Take responsibility for projects and follow through to completion with minimal need for direct supervision.
  • Ability to oversee the development of instructional content that aligns with course objectives and competencies.
  • Knowledge and understanding of competency-based education instructional design best practices.
  • ď‚·Strong ability to communicate online using e-mail, chat rooms, videoconferencing and other technology based on communication media.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Professional attitude and demeanor paired with a solution-focused mindset, positive attitude, attention to detail and customer service focus.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and work well under pressure with multiple deadlines.
  • Take responsibility for projects and follow through to completion with minimal need for direct supervision.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • This job description covers a position in which the percentage of time spent on the essential functions will vary based on the workload and will ultimately be determined by the supervisor.
