Director Of Development 🔥

WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE DO

ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW:

The Pollination Project [1] seeks to unleash the goodness in each person we come into contact with (and beyond), therefore becoming a formidable antidote to apathy and indifference. We make seed grants [2] to individuals and small start-up organizations who seek to spread compassion in their communities and the world at large. Since we began, The Pollination Project has made over 3,000 grants in 112 countries [3]. Through pollinating and amplifying the good in our grantees, we hope to create the conditions for new ecologies of compassion consciousness [4] in society.

LEADERSHIP AT THE POLLINATION PROJECT AND HOW YOU FIT IN:

Since its inception, we have chosen to question existing paradigms of philanthropy in ways beyond the size of our grants and our democratized grant approval process. We’ve prioritized intersections of issues over clean silos, volunteerism over careerism, and internal transformation along with external impact. Anticipate a role that is inspiring, challenging, and creative. Don’t expect to be a standard non profit executive. This is more like an entrepreneurial opportunity, where your role is much about being a ladder than a leader, and where your own personal growth sets the ceiling for the organization and is therefore prioritized. We are looking for someone that can include multiple constituencies, from the board to staff to grantees to impacted communities, in conversation over how we can uproot apathy and amplify compassion. We believe integration of these varied constituencies will generate new ways to expand kindness, deepen relationships, and transform conventional currency effectively into its more valuable siblings (compassion, courage & wisdom).

JOB DESCRIPTION

This role requires someone with an ability to be highly collaborative, who can think outside the box when it comes to strategic development plans through various outlets, and who has incredible attention to detail to manage the execution of day to day relationship building.

This is a full-time salaried exempt position with a generous benefits package. Although we are a remote organization, you will be required to be online and available 9am- 5pm Pacific time (with some flexibility) and be willing and able to take several trips a year to the San Francisco Bay Area to meet with our board and team members.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • In collaboration with the Board of Directors, Executive Director, Development team, and others, design and implement a development strategy to achieve, expand and enhance TPP’s fundraising goals, including foundation and corporate relationships, as well as major gift support;
  • Manage and foster long term relationships with individuals, foundations and corporations resulting in funding for immediate and long term goals of TPP;
  • Research, analyze, and recommend methods to match interests of foundations and major donors with TPP priorities;
  • Write effective grant applications and proposals;
  • Have facility with best practices in cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategies for fund development.
  • In collaboration with the TPP leadership team, co-create a development department covering areas identified in the overall development strategy.

QUALIFICATIONS:

TPP is seeking a passionate Development professional who has at least 5 years of development experience, ideally in an “in-house” leadership role within a complex (number and variety of constituents) nonprofit entity. The ability to take knowledge of TPP and transform it into exciting, values aligned partnerships is critical.

We are seeking a team member with a growth-mindset, who is inquisitive and curious about creating a more compassionate and kind society, and internally exploring contemplative practices to gain deeper insight about how one shows up in the world.

Specific requirements include:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of best methods, practices and procedures for obtaining information about giving programs/priorities of foundations and corporations;
  • Highly collaborative style
  • Experience developing and implementing communications strategies
  • Excellent writing/editing and verbal communication skills
  • A strong track record as an implementer who thrives on managing a variety of key initiatives concurrently
  • Relationship builder with flexibility and finesse
  • Maturity and leadership with the ability to serve as a unifying force and to position development discussions at both the strategic and tactical levels
  • Sincere commitment to work collaboratively with all constituent groups, including staff, board members, volunteers, donors, grantees, and other supporters
  • Self-starter, able to work independently, and entrepreneurial; enjoys creating and implementing new initiatives
