Position Description: Ardent is seeking a Data Governance Specialist/Data Analyst with broad data management and data visualization skills who has a desire to make a direct impact through the creation and implementation of agency-wide data governance policies. Our ideal candidate is a problem solver and self-starter who uses a collaborative, iterative, and people-first approach to supporting an enterprise data management program. This candidate will work closely with a government clients to develop policy and aid data stewards in meeting and maintaining the standards outlined in policy. In addition, you will be able to shape data culture and support data analysis training opportunities across the agency. Success will come from the constant advocacy of human-centered solutions across all elements of the data ecosystem. Responsibilities: Draft and support implementation of data governance and data quality processes and policies, including technical input. Serve as data analytics and data governance consultant, advising government clients on how best to utilize their agency data; assist with business development efforts as needed. Liaise between Chief Data Officer and data stewards across lines of business/mission areas within a government agency. Use data management platforms such as Collibra, Alation, Informatica, Tableau Data Management to maintain a holistic data catalog of enterprise/government agency data assets. Support component contributions to DHS-wide Data Inventory Program. Enable and improve data quality and discoverability through data cataloging activities and metadata maintenance. Integrate business intelligence software tools such as Power BI, Tableau, ESRI with data management tools to support creation of dashboards, data visualizations, run queries/reports, and analyze large datasets on behalf of government agency clients. Support development of a nascent data culture and data steward training program across a government agency. Participate in full data lifecycle: collect, clean, prepare, ETL, analyze/exploit, model, and QC data; find new ways to automate this work. Continuously scan for and learn about new datasets and data science methodologies that will improve our services for our clients or enhance our technology products. Serve as a ‘data journalist’ and lead data analyst to uncover data insights across wide range of domains and applications & make it actionable: intelligence, law enforcement/investigative support, financial/economics data, GIS data, public safety, infrastructure, business performance/operations metrics, etc. Perform deep dives and ETL of data sources to combine and transform data from multiple sources and domains to discover novel and actionable insights. Requirements: Excellent visual, oral, and written communicator who can translate between business owners and technical staff. Experience creating data visualizations and dashboards using visual design best practices. Good analytical skills with a focus on critical thinking, problem-solving, numeric reasoning, and creativity. Curious, lifelong learner willing to learn about new topics, technologies, and domains beyond their existing expertise. Collaborative team player who can work with and communicate with people from different fields and functional areas. Creative and tenacious problem solver: someone who can improvise novel ways to answer questions or problems and find ways around obstacles. Experience in data management tools such as Collibra, Alation, Informatica, Tableau Data Management. Bachelor's Degree or above in business, commerce, MIS, data science/analytics, computer science, economics, or STEM preferred. (Open to work experience or certifications or proven quantitative analysis skills in lieu of STEM degree.) Highly Desirable: Experience/certifications in BI software tools such as MS Power BI, Tableau; able to create/configure custom charts, queries, and reports a plus. 2+ years experience supporting a federal agency or research organization a plus. Experience with GIS and geospatial data and platforms (e.g., ESRi, OSM, GoogleEarth) a plus. Active participation or connections in relevant communities of technical and practical excellence (e.g., industry working groups and forums, research or volunteer efforts) a plus. Experience with AWS (or other cloud-based environment) a plus.
