POSITION SUMMARY

As the field of social justice, racial equity and advocacy grows, the Forward Promise initiative is on the frontline as a catalyst to healing, growing, and thriving for young people of color–particularly those in historically marginalized and oppressed communities. The Director of Field Building will lead Forward Promise’s efforts to advance a common understanding and language related to disrupting dehumanization, healing through practices rooted in culture, and the importance of rest and reflection for racial healers themselves. Their work will position Forward Promise–and the grantee organizations and Fellows in the Forward Promise “Village”–as thought leaders in these areas. The Director of Field Building will be an expert in content creation. They will collaborate with internal teams, grantee organizations, and Fellows to “build the field” by amplifying our core messages, inspiring stakeholders with best practices in youth development, and educating our audiences on our proprietary frameworks. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to social justice and racial equity and a depth of experience in content creation and storytelling across various platforms and mediums including in-person and virtual; with an emphasis on podcasts, webcasts/webinars, conferences, convenings, and blogging. Experience recruiting and coordinating speakers for in-person and virtual conferences is helpful.   


RESPONSIBILITIES

Content Creation and Oversight

●      Collaborates with Forward Promise leadership and communications team to develop appropriate themes for podcasts, webcasts, webinars, short films, blogs, conference presentations, and emails.

●      Responsible for producing compelling stories via the aforementioned vehicles and ensures appropriate flow and cadence of recorded and live programs.

●      Manages the guest selection, scheduling, scripting, and coordination of resources/ documents necessary for smooth recording and live sessions.

●      Owns the remote recording (primarily via Zoom) for each podcast, webinar, or webcast.

●      Works with filmmakers and podcast producers during the editing process to highlight the most impactful pieces of content.

●      Coordinates and moderates online and live (e.g., conferences) discussions.

●      Liaises with, and provides oversight to, consultants for field building projects such as the graphic design firm and filmmaker.

●      Recommends particularly impactful audio and video segments to be promoted by the social media team.

Organizes Educational Component of Virtual and In-person Convenings

●      Identifies timely and important content, helps to develop themes, identifies appropriate speakers, schedules speakers to support themes, and creates the “run of show” for field building events, such as the grantee convening and/or other annual events for Forward Promise.

●      Collaborates with the internal event planner to ensure that all technical requirements are secured for guests.

●      Identifies key outcomes for building knowledge in the field, and tracking if those outcomes are achieved.

Advances Thought Leadership

●      Recommends new approaches, tools, and partnerships to ensure the effective, comprehensive dissemination of Forward Promise’s thought leadership.

●      Collaborates with internal departments to identify, develop, and sustain strong external working relationships with like-minded organizations, initiatives, and leaders in the fields of youth development, racial equity, social justice, and philanthropy.

●      Develops an outreach plan including identifying relevant conferences where Forward Promise should keynote, present, or otherwise take part. Write abstracts for submission as well as develop–and in some cases–present content.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

●      5-7 years of proven professional experience conceptualizing and producing polished digital content.

●      Experience producing content for and planning in-person, hybrid, and virtual events.

●      Knowledge of or experience with institutions, organizations, events, conferences, and publications that align with the Forward Promise mission.

●      The successful candidate will possess the ability to think strategically, execute against multiple priorities, manage time effectively, and identify resources for projects.

●      A Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or related field is required. Suitable field experience may be considered if the candidate does not possess the full educational requirement.

●      Experience in youth development, social impact, and/or advocacy is required.

●      Excellent written and oral communication skills.
