POSITION SUMMARY:

HIAS seeks a Program Coordinator, Preferred Communities to ensure that refugees and newcomers served by HIAS’ affiliates are able to access and understand U.S. systems and meaningfully connect with host communities. The Program Coordinator, Preferred Communities provides administrative and programmatic support for the Social Integration team. This position also engages with HIAS headquarters support departments, HIAS Affiliates across the country, U.S. National Resettlement Agencies (RAs) and other stakeholders to ensure high quality and responsive refugee programming across the HIAS network. They are involved in all aspects of the Preferred Communities (PC) program to ensure there are adequate resources to support particularly vulnerable refugee arrivals and to build capacity for additional resettlement through HIAS’ domestic network of affiliate partners.

Note, this is a full-time, temporary position that starts ASAP and ends 12 months later, with possible extension. This position is based at our headquarters in Silver Spring, Maryland or our office in New York, New York, and we will consider a remote option for applicants who live outside of commuting distance to either of our offices and are based in other states in which we are registered (Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Supports Social Integration program staff to plan, monitor, report on and successfully implement PC and other social inclusion programming across the HIAS network.
  • Assists program managers with developing thorough affiliate profiles that will include all components of Social Integration program, including intensive case management, group programming, volunteer engagement and community coordination, as well as other related service areas.
  • Supports new learning initiatives that engage internal and external speakers/practitioners on critical topics in refugee resettlement and which will expand U.S. Programs staff knowledge and information as well as strengthen linkages to related departments across HIAS.
  • Supports affiliate monitoring and site visits, including visit preparations and communications, on-site monitoring, complementary program assessments, tracking findings and corrective actions, and follow-up with affiliates.
  • Assists with creating materials (program forms and documentation, promotional materials, curriculums and more) and adapting them for different linguistic and cultural groups.
  • Supports the Social Integration team with programmatic reports, including collecting information, analyzing data and writing reports for funders.
  • Assists in formalizing and setting up Desk Audit (Remote Monitoring) protocols and procedures, and maintains the Remote Monitoring calendar to ensure relevant and appropriate follow-up to recommendations are addressed.
  • Assists with monitoring the Apricot database to ensure affiliate agencies are compliant with reporting requirements for the PC program.
  • Maintains a log of refugee resettlement inquiries from anchors, clients and the general public.
  • Carries out research in support of improved and expanded core and complementary programming at HQ and across the HIAS network.
  • Provides support for other social inclusion program functions as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience required.
  • 2-3 years of relevant experience required.
  • Knowledge of U.S. Refugee Program strongly desired; previous refugee program work experience preferred.
  • Previous personal experience with refugee resettlement or migration is strongly preferred.
  • Excellent computer skills, including data entry and data analysis; proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to maintain key relationships with program staff at HIAS affiliates and other national voluntary agencies.
  • Well-organized and detail-oriented; ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Attentive to detail; self-starter able to manage and carry out varied functions of multi-faceted program.
