Currently, we are seeking to hire a VP, Controller. As a VP, Controller, you will be responsible for leading a vital and collaborative team that works daily to successfully manage the financial aspects of our business. The building blocks would involve successfully overseeing the Accounting Team and working with the CFO to drive organizational strategies impacting the financial statements and acting as a partner not only to internal business leaders, but also to external auditors and regulatory agencies.


This position is fully remote and will require flexibility to come to our Stamford, CT HUB for occasional team collaboration and cross functional meetings.



Summary of Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible to meet or exceed all goals and key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Manage the day to day operations of the general accounting, Accounts Payable, Cost Accounting, Sales Audit, SEC reporting, SOX and Tax teams though guidance, analysis and mentorship.
  • Accountable for full cycle accounting calendar including monthly, quarterly, and year-end accounting close accuracy and deadlines, leading teams to successful and timely execution in accordance with GAAP and other Company policies, continuously providing training and working to develop and challenge team members to exceed expectations. Streamline the close and reporting process.
  • Ensure high quality review processes for journal entry processing, account reconciliations, fluctuation explanations (budget/forecast to actual), internal and external financial reporting, SOX controls, and other analyses required to support assigned balance sheets and related business processes.
  • Act as a business partner to work cross-functionally with leaders throughout the organization in order to ensure operational success, understand and help build business models, implement tactical and strategic initiatives, and support overall performance and growth, as well as to clearly understand impacts to the Company's financial statements.
  • Drive continuous business process improvements through the design and implementation of new technologies, overseeing robust and accurate business requirements, reporting, and testing for all system changes impacting Accounting.
  • Ensure that SOX controls adequately address business and technology risks, and ensure all processes are documented, kept current, and executed in accordance with Company policy, staying apprised of changes in PCAOB and SEC requirements.
  • Research and analyze technical positions and compliance efforts related to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Securities and Exchange. Commission (SEC) rules and regulations, and other compliance issues as needed. Lead technical accounting research and implementation.
  • Manage daily cash and prepare cash-flow reports, projecting cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals.
  • Ensure timely and clean external audits and working with the external auditors (company and bank auditors) throughout the year to ensure an efficient audit process
  • Oversee annual external audit and work closely with internal audit firm to make improvements to the financial processes and controls throughout the organization.
  • Attract, hire, train and retain high performing staff as supported by growth in the business.
  • Perform other job-related functions and special projects, as assigned.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting or Finance from an accredited college or university; MBA or other relevant masters degree a plus.
  • Certified Public Accountant and Big 4 public accounting experience required.
  • Must have a minimum of 10 years' experience managing accounting functions for a large organization including 3-5 years at the Controller/Director level with extensive work within a consumer goods company.
  • Full cycle accounting experience through analysis and presentation of financial statements to include experience with the full preparation and completion of SEC filings to include 10-Qs and 10-Ks.
  • Experience managing in a SOX-compliant environment.
  • Strong knowledge in US GAAP technical accounting, SEC reporting/regulations, and FP&A and business metrics.
  • Management experience, including responsibility for assessing resource needs and providing business-based recommendations on: Building teams and hiring, goal setting and performance management, training and development, achieving objectives through others, addressing poor performance and bench planning.
  • Strong organizational, time management and problem-solving skills.
  • Must demonstrate flexible thinking and ability to work in ambiguity.
  • Demonstrated experience with accomplishing things through others and getting things executed.
  • Must be highly analytical, solutions oriented and see the "big picture".
  • Excellent technical, verbal, and written communication skills to explain results and proposals across varying levels of experience within the organization.
  • Consistent ability to work both remotely and report into Corporate Headquarters or designated showroom, as required and in accordance with Lovesac policies, CDC and State Guidelines.
  • Must be results driven and utilize knowledge to meet or exceed KPIs and goals.
  • Must have proven time management skills and quickly adapts to a changing business environment.
  • Able to prioritize responsibilities with the appropriate level of urgency, able to listen and can use this information to solve problems, anticipate issues and make correct decisions based on a variety of situations.

  • Must have the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines consistently.

  • Proficiency required in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel & PowerPoint.
  • Experience with NetSuite and Workiva financial reporting compliance platform preferred.
  • Must comply with the standards, policies and procedures outlined in the Lovesac Employee Handbook.
  • Must be capable of using and operating all equipment as required, including but not limited to: iPad, laptop, etc.
  • Must be able to travel, as required by the Company in its sole discretion, for occasional meetings and conferences using various forms of transportation.
