Senior Accountant


BASIC PURPOSE OF THIS JOB:

Support the Accounting and Finance department in diverse roles. This includes, but is not limited to, claim payment reconciliation and posting, deductible invoicing and collection, fixed asset accounting and agent commissions. The Senior Accountant performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • 5 years working knowledge of current accounting experience and extensive knowledge of appropriate accounting practices.
  • Working knowledge of modern office equipment including PC’s, automated accounting software (preferably Microsoft Dynamics SL and OASIS).
  • Advanced knowledge of spreadsheet applications and word processing applications (preferably Microsoft Excel and Word).
  • Ability to make mathematical computations, highly attentive to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently with little direction, but also work with others in a variety of situations.
  • Ability to establish priorities and monitor deadlines.
  • Exhibit behavior which emphasizes quality, integrity and teamwork.
  • Typical business office environment;
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Flexible schedules are at the discretion of the supervisor. Longer hours during the week and occasional weekend time may be required.
  • For all entities, reconcile and post monthly claim payments. Analyze claim activity on a quarterly basis for financial statement preparation and reporting.
  • Create bi-monthly deductible invoices and resolve billing and collection problems.
  • Maintaining the fixed asset system for acquisitions and disposals of all fixed assets of COPIC Trust and COPIC Insurance Company, reconcile costs from the fixed asset system to the general ledger, post monthly depreciation and run various fixed assets reports.
  • Reconcile and post adjusting entries for specified general ledger accounts for all entities; including Rent, Real Estate Taxes, and Personal Property Taxes accounts and others as assigned.
  • Assist with the preparation of the statutory annual and quarterly statements for all entities.
  • Assist with audits.
  • Reconcile and prepare agent commission statements for payment to outside agents.
  • Verify agent commission rates and premium transaction with Oasis data.
  • Prepare monthly journal entries for commission payable and expenses.
