What you’ll do: The Learning Experience Designer II (LXD II) for English Language Development (ELD) is an experienced editor of instructional content who is well versed in curriculum and pedagogy for multilingual learners and is dedicated to the creation of culturally responsive and innovative learning experiences that will accelerate language development for students learning English. The LXD II, ELD supports all content development efforts, works collaboratively within and across teams, and diligently juggles multiple results-oriented initiatives under tight turnarounds. Working on the Supplemental and Intervention Solutions ELD team, the Learning Experience Designer II (LXD II) ELD will be responsible for the following primary duties:
  • Contribute to the product development (e.g., instructional design, scope and sequence creation, prototype design, content creation), and production of digital learning and blended experiences from concept to delivery.
  • Use expertise in K-12 ELD instruction and standards to develop prototypes, write manuscript, and scope digital content that adhere to research and best practices.
  • Support and contribute to content creation efforts for ELD programs, digital interactivities, and assessments for multilingual learners with designers, advisors, and developers.
  • Solicit and incorporate feedback from the development team, Principal Learning Experience Designer, and program authors and advisors.
  • Collaborate across teams, working with Product Management, Project Management, UX/UI Design, and Digital Production to ensure that work aligns with product development plans, goals, and strategies.
  • Deliver value to customers in keeping with capacity constraints and market expectations, often contributing fresh, innovative solutions that surprise and delight users.
  • Create and adapt content and metadata for a digital-first experience that are instructionally sound, engaging, and error-free.
  • Actively participate in agile ceremonies and leverage agile methodologies throughout the development process.
  • Partner with product management and team members to incorporate user feedback through the development process.
  • Work flexibly across grade levels, K-12.
  • Ensures that HMH standards in diversity, inclusion, equity, and social-emotional learning are consistently implemented.

What you’ll need:
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience developing interactive instructional materials for elementary and/or secondary multilingual learners OR 4 years of experience teaching multilingual learners in a K–12 education setting
  • Multilingual (Spanish, Arabic, or Chinese preferred)
  • Bachelor’s degree in education (Master’s preferred)
  • ELD/ESL/TEFL or bilingual teaching certification
  • Expert knowledge of ELD curriculum, standards and assessments (WIDA or other), pedagogy, and best practices
  • Strong editing and writing ability; grammar and composition skills; verbal and written communication skills
  • Submission of a writing sample and/or completion of a writing/editing test
  • Effective collaborator across diverse groups
  • Strong conceptual skills, a critical eye for detail, and the ability to translate complex concepts into visual representations
  • Comfortable learning and working in a variety of digital authoring tools and workflows to enable content creation
  • Ability to meet deadlines regularly and to highlight risks at early stages
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Experience seeking out opportunities for deepening own knowledge and expertise in market environment, pedagogical and content issues, and process improvements.
  • Self-motivated, able to work with and communicate effectively with a variety of technical and creative individuals

Preferred but not necessary:
  • Experience with Lean, Agile, data analysis/interpretation
  • Experience developing learning solutions for the K–12 market, including digital content, templates, metadata, feedback mechanisms
  • Experience with JIRA, Habitat, InCopy
