Social Media Content Manager 🔥


Position Summary:


The Social Media Content Manager works as part of OCU's Marketing & Communications Office, to promote the achievements of students, faculty and staff, advance the goals of the university, aid in student recruitment through digital channels, and communicate the activities and mission of OCU to our internal and external constituencies.

The Social Media Content Manager has four primary responsibilities:

  • Managing, creating content, and posting on the university’s main social media accounts on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, Twitter and other platforms. Create original content to engage prospective students, current students, and university audiences. Use social media listening tools such as Sprout Social to monitor sentiment and be able to respond quickly to both celebratory posts as well as crisis situations. Use these tools to look for shareable content from other university accounts, key alumni and friends of the university
  • Work with student and alumni influencers to broaden the reach of campaigns and represent the perspectives of those audiences
  • Fulfilling day-to-day client requests related to social media, web and print projects as a part of contributing to broader communications, departmental and university goals
  • Assist with writing projects, specifically but not limited to the university blog and alumni magazine, and contribute to any other departmental marketing/communications initiatives as needed

The Social Media Content Manager is a member of the University’s Marketing & Communications team and reports to the Senior Director of Marketing & Communications.

This position is 90% remote and covered by the university’s remote work/telework policy.

The annual salary for this position is budgeted for $40,503.20


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate an attitude and behavior that reflects the values and mission of the department and University.
  • Manage the university’s primary social media channels. Update and maintain the university’s website and web presence, as needed.
  • Fulfill and manage day-to-day internal client requests.
  • Contribute to social media and CMS training sessions for content coordinators across campus.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing team toward broader marketing and communication goals.
  • Participate in departmental efforts and assignments to recruit students and promote the university’s brand.
  • Maximize social media platforms to share new and existing content communicating the activities and mission of OCU to internal and external constituencies.
    • Manage the university’s main social media accounts on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, Twitter and other platforms. Create original content to engage prospective students, current students, and university audiences. Use social media listening tools such as Sprout Social to monitor sentiment and be able to respond quickly to both celebratory posts as well as crisis situations. Use these tools to look for shareable content from key alumni and friends of the university
    • Work with student and alumni influencers to broaden the reach of campaigns and represent the perspectives of those audiences
  • Develop an ongoing understanding of trends in social media and evolving online behavior in order to position the university to have an emerging and competitive online and social media strategy.

Required Skills
  • In-depth familiarity with and knowledge of common social media platforms, including but not limited to, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, YouTube, Reddit, Twitter, Snapchat; and a willingness to learn any new and/or developing platforms as necessary.
  • Demonstrated ability to create error-free written communication with strong attention to grammatical detail and AP writing style. Preference may be given to candidates with advanced writing abilities.
  • Ability to successfully proofread and edit digital and other written communication for publication.
  • Ability to monitor social media feeds and interact with users on social media platforms, practicing excellent customer relations and communications.
  • Technical fluency in common computer applications and software programs including MS Office Suite, PC, and Apple platforms.
  • Ability to coordinate and handle multiple projects simultaneously, meeting deadlines and ensuring project completion.
  • Ability to communicate and work with a variety of people of varying backgrounds and education levels.
  • Ability to explain, demonstrate and train campus personnel in web and content management system tools.
  • Strong interpersonal relationship skills.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to identify conflicting or confusing content on digital platforms and the university website to recommend or implement revisions.
  • Ability to demonstrate mastery of fundamental web competencies including utilization of content management systems (e.g. Craft, Drupal, Wordpress, Cascade) to create and update websites, technical troubleshooting skills, working knowledge of HTML and CSS, and nonlinear digital editing software.
  • Preferred experience with Dreamweaver and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Ability to work independently with a high degree of accountability and accuracy.


Required Experience
  • A minimum of two years of demonstrated social media management and social media content development experience. Preference for candidates with experience in higher education and/or marketing, and candidates with experience managing social media channels for a well-known/reputable brand or organization.
  • A suitable combination of education and experience may be substituted for minimum qualifications.
  • Required: Bachelor’s degree in a related field of study (Communications, Marketing, etc.)
