The Division of Enterprise Operations (DEO) administers enterprise policies governing procurement, risk management, and continuity of operations planning; provides services to DOA and other agencies in the areas of financial management, procurement, risk management, continuity of operations planning, and the State Prosecutors Program; and facilitates opportunities for diverse businesses to sell goods and services to state agencies.

We are seeking to fill two project/project positions:

  • Accountant Journey/Senior – Funding will end 3/23/2026
  • Accountant Senior – Funding will end 12/28/2024

Project positions are eligible for benefits including health insurance, but the incumbents do not attain permanent civil service status. The incumbents must be Wisconsin residents.

These positions are headquartered at the Department of Administration State Office Building, 101 E. Wilson Street, Madison, WI.

Position Summary


Accountant Journey/Senior:

This professional position is responsible for the accounting and financial management of federally funded grants. Duties include budget, expenditure and contract analysis; preparation of federal reports; fund draws and transfers; assisting program staff and subrecipients with financial management issues; and continued involvement with development and improvements in program tracking computer systems. This position also provides financial management of the segregated funds, including the preparation of fund condition statements based on analysis and calculations. Additional responsibilities include accounting for attached agencies or DOA divisions, reconciliation of payroll benefits and State Accounting System grant module maintenance and reporting.

Salary Information


The starting hourly rate for the Accountant – Journey position will be $31.00 - $33.00 per hour depending upon candidate qualifications. In addition, up to a $.50 per hour CPA add-on may be available for this classification. This classification is assigned to pay schedule/range 07-03.

The starting hourly rate for the Accountant - Senior position will be $34.50 - $37.32 per hour depending upon candidate qualifications. In addition, up to a $.50 per hour CPA add-on may be available for this classification. This classification is assigned to pay schedule/range 07-03.

Job Details


Due to the nature of the position, DOA will conduct background checks on applicants prior to selection. DOA does not sponsor work visas. All persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States, and to complete the required employment eligibility form.

All state employees must report their COVID vaccination status, whether vaccinated or not and provide supporting documentation if vaccinated. Newly hired employees will be required to submit this information within their first two weeks of employment.

Qualifications


Minimally qualified candidates will have:

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher in accounting or auditing from an accredited institution or commensurate professional experience in accounting and/or auditing.

Qualified Applicants will also have experience in:

  • Utilizing spreadsheets and databases (such as Microsoft Office Excel or similar)
  • General accounting (e.g., cost allocation, reconciliations, general ledger journal vouchers, auditing, or similar)
  • Peoplesoft or comparable finance system

In addition to the qualifications above, the Senior level will also have experience with:

  • Federal or State grant accounting at a level that would require limited supervision to perform the job duties.
