WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER

The Policy Advocacy and Outreach Associate will primarily work in Pennsylvania and Delaware to support TNC’s conservation, climate, clean transportation, and clean energy policy priorities. The individual will work closely with TNC staff and external stakeholders to identify opportunities and develop strategies to reach target audiences in support of advancing TNC’s mission through policy. Responsibilities include tracking policies and decisions that directly affect TNC’s goals; developing communications materials for consumption by elected officials, their staff, and influential constituencies; developing tools and procedures for robust relationship and engagement tracking; development and execution of ongoing constituent engagement and mobilization strategies and actions. In addition, the individual is expected to build external strategic partnerships by serving as TNC’s representative on various conservation and climate stakeholder groups. This role also will assist in devising strategies to ensure equitable conservation and climate gains.

This position has a work location preference for Harrisburg, PA. Qualified candidates may be considered for remote work options within reasonable same-day commuting proximity to Harrisburg, PA –those locations which facilitate the ability to commute on an as-needed basis for meetings and in-person work sessions expected six to eight days per month.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2 years related work experience or equivalent combination.
  • Fluency in English
  • Experience executing advocacy strategies such as email campaigns, media campaigns, constituent outreach, social media campaigns, coordinating lobby days and other advocacy events, or comparable experience.
  • Experience writing and editing promotional and informational material.
  • Experience presenting to and communicating with internal and external audiences.
  • Experience working with partners/government agencies.
  • Experience interacting with senior leadership in a professional manner.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in political science, public administration, environmental policy. communications or related field.
  • Experience coordinating complex projects in a decentralized organization, working across teams, operating units, and functions to achieve optimal results.
  • Experience in development and drafting of advocacy, policy, and strategic communications materials.
  • Knowledge or interest in diversity, equity, and inclusion as it relates to climate and environmental policy.
  • Experience building networks or organizational capacity.
  • Experience utilizing planning and tracking tools or developing new tracking tools in service to team objectives.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining partnerships, coalitions, and collaborations.
  • Strong time management and prioritization skills.
  • Experience working in state and federal regulatory and legislative environments.
  • Proven organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously.
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills.
  • Collaborative; team oriented
  • Self-starting, independent worker who can thrive in a decentralized organization with minimal oversight.
