What We Can Achieve Together

The Freshwater Community of Practice (FW-CoP) Manager will lead the development and implementation of the FW-CoP, managing projects that increase connectivity between staff, programs, and projects to enable The Nature Conservancy to efficiently and effectively achieve our freshwater conservation and protection goals. The focus of the work will be on helping shape culture, tools, and systems that increase capacity flexibility across freshwater programs, delivering engaging learning, knowledge and peer exchange opportunities that accelerate the pace of transformation, and building and maintaining an active community of freshwater practitioners, scientists, communicators, and leaders. The FW-CoP Manager will report to the Global Director of Freshwater Outcomes. 

The location for this position is flexible within countries where The Nature Conservancy is a registered NGO and has an already established office. This position is not eligible for relocation or immigration assistance. May involve domestic and international travel of 15% or more.

We need an individual to work with TNC staff around the world to ensure the FW-CoP is responsive to the needs of freshwater staff across functions and regions, from local practitioners to global champions. To facilitate the delivery of engaging and enriching learning opportunities through live webinars, pre-recorded videos, and peer exchange that stimulate the transfer of proven approaches from within and beyond the Conservancy, increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of our work, and enhancing our collective efforts toward freshwater outcomes. They will support newsletters, facile ways to find expertise across the Conservancy’s freshwater community, and other innovations that facilitate a sense of community and connection across and among staff engaged in or contributing to freshwater conservation. Manage funding to support capacity mobility to increase efficacy and equity of staff and skills and contribute to the professional development of staff. Coordinates with philanthropy staff on fundraising for the FW-CoP, including assisting in proposal development, writing, and reporting. They will engage with marketing and internal communications staff to ensure the narrative on freshwater is reflective of the diversity of our work, to identify strategic outreach opportunities, and to elevate stories from the field. Researches, introduces, and tests innovative community-of-practice tools and approaches used by other CoPs within TNC and outside of our organization.


 

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 4 years related experience, or equivalent combination.
  • Experience managing complex projects or strategic initiatives in an unstructured environment.
  • Experience compiling, researching, synthesizing, writing, and editing project information for different audiences including promotion, project reporting, demonstration of innovative projects, and compiling it into cohesive reports and recommendations for strategy and action.
  • Experience delivering distance learning programs and using technology to stimulate knowledge exchange and connections.
